I bought a Marlin 336 yesterday that has to be reblued. Can't make up my mind though where I want the glossy look or the matte look. Glossy would look more original but I think the matte would look good too. So let me here you opinion.

glossy.
tighter surface, seems to hold up to moisture better than a matte finish.
Myabe not in all cases, but it seems to me like the glossy bluing seems more often to beat out a matte finish in corosion resistance.
plus i guess i like the glossy finish better, apprearance wise.
but, that's just an opinion.

I'm thinkin the diff between satin & matte would be.... well I guess I'd call the new finish on a ruger hawkeye a satin & a finish that looks like it was heavily bead blasted (textured)& non pollished blued would be Matte.

Hawkeye is more matte. Satin is satin, maybe think paint, Gloss, Semi-gloss, Flat.
Some glass balls give the metal a neat finish.

Glass beading, I don't do it, just going off what a remember from my pard that coats guns. I have several that are satin finished. Not that gloss shine but not flat matte either. Right between the two.

Not that gloss shine but not flat matte either. Right between the two.
Yeah that would be perfect.. Guess now I'm going to have to do some researching on how to get the satin look.
