Got a Browning Citori 20 ga in yesterday.. Customer was complaining that the second barrel would not go off, no matter which barrel was selected first..
Ok.. Tells me what MIGHT be a problem.. So I takes the firearm tries it meself.. Hmmmm,,. Stickiest trigger I ever saw..
Long story short.. This dude apparently, and with some frequency, sprayed or applied some kind of 'lube' (using the term VERY loosely) to the trigger area... What it did was fully gum up the works so that the trigger would return to set so slowly it would miss the inertia block.
ANY lube in an O/U's internal parts is a big no-no.. No dry lube, no wet lube, no graphite, no oil, CERTAINLY no WD-40 or other sprays.. Nothing. Zip. Nada. NO LUBE...
SKBs, Brownings and the like need the internal parts behind the receiver face to be clean, dry and free of anything if you want it to function correctly.
I know doing the opposite makes me a ton of money, but I figure I'll seldom get O/Us in from the campfire so I'm just passing along a little tidbit of maintenance info..
As an aside, DO apply a dab o' grease (I prefer this to heavy oils, since grease tends to stay in place even during hot weather and/or heavy use, while oils can and will disappear) to the pivot points and the barrel block sides to prevent galling, rust and/or difficult opening/closing.. Especially with the Brownings.. The previous dude's firearm had pivot points and block sides as dry as Melba toast.. All he's asking for is a very expensive repair down the road..
Take this advice for whatever you feel it's worth... After all, it's YOUR money..
Best to you all...

Been following the same advice on a host of O/Us that see some serious shooting. (one summer my father, brother and I did 30,000 rounds of 12 gauge alone. Not counting 20,28 and 410). Nary a hiccup.

I just picked up a Citori this afternoon. Thak you for the very timely advice. I lightly greased the pivot which eased the stiffness a bit, but I'm sure a few hundred rounds down range will do more to loosen it up than anything else.

Yup.. Brownings and SKBs take about 500 rounds to loosen up.. Don't forget to put a little grease on the sides of the barrel block by the ejectors.. Without it, you can very easily get galling..
