I have been shooting doubles for years and I have finally decided to add a nice Automatic shotgun... I would like your input on the Benelli vs Beretta vs Winchester vs whatever else...

Few things I am concerned about....

One of my main concerns is getting the gun to fit me properly... It is important to me to buy one I can adjust the drop and length of pull mainly.... and have a good selection of comp or Briley type higher end chokes available for the gun... and that I can get a wood gun that looks pretty nice as well... I am not big on synthetic....

Cost in not a major factor (with in reason.... I would prefer not to break 2k)

This will be used mainly for busting Doves & the ocassional clays... and or pheasant

Thank you for your input..

I really like the Beretta's. I have Benelli's, Browning's, and Beretta's.
If I had to go buy a new gun today, Beretta would get the nod. It has the shim kit for the stock to move it where it will fit you (ie cast on/off, and raise/lower the comb) and chokes are good as is but lots of after market chokes are out there. Recoil is nothing on these guns, and they are built like a tank.

I like the Beretta's too, but I really like the Benelli Montefeltro. And to take a step up in price, but still stay within your means, and to get a really nice auto., maybe take a look at the Benelli Legacy...or the Benelli Montefeltro Silver.

Benelli first and a close second would be Beretta. Anything else is a very distant third IMHO.

Walk the isles of your local clays ranges and you'll see more and more Berettas; it's a great auto.

Hard to go wrong with either a Benelli or Beretta.

They both are easy on recoil, the Benelli Montefeltro seems to be lighter recoil than a standard 391 Beretta. The 391 and Montefeltro are both 3" guns, fine for upland, sporting and waterfowl, a lot lighter than the Xtrema and SBEII's.

Owning and shooting both, I like the Montefeltro better, both shoot fine, the Beretta takes a bit more to clean with the gas system compared to the Benelli recoil system.

I have shot two A-5's all my life one 20 ga and one 12 ga.

Two years ago I bought a Benelle M2 in 20 ga.

WOW! HOT DAM!

Under six pounds and shoots like a dream

The only time I use a double is for sage chickens.

When the chukar and quail are busten is the time you need the auto.

IMO the Beretta 390/391 is the best all-round autoshotty. It's adjustable, reliable and has great handling dynamics (for a pogo-stick type gun).

The Benelli doesn't have any flies on it either.

Benelli M2 in 20ga; I have a Benelli M1 Super 90 in 12ga and it's a great gun, but the M2 gets the nod most days. Light, sweet to handle and very reliable.

I prefer Benelli's short recoil action to the gas action of the others. Runs cleaner.

I have (or have had) a 20g Benelli Montefeltro, a 12g Belgian Browning Auto-5, a Remington 11-87, and a few Beretta 390's and 391's. I have to admit, there is something great about all three "B" guns. It's a tough choice between the Benelli and the Beretta 391 though for modern shottys. I've had both in 20g, and think I like the Benelli just a touch better. Tough call though! Can't go wrong with either.
