In 1968 I aquired two things, a new gun and a new wife. I still have both. The gun is a Marlin model 336C in .35 rem and the wife is a hard working, stand by your guy type woman. They both still look good and I wouldn't part with either one.

My son says that of all the guns in my gun safe, that is the one he would like to one day have. He shot his first buck with it. Like many, I used it for a few years and then felt I needed more range. In recent years, I have done most of my hunting with a .270. Nothing against the .270, it is a great gun, but there is just something about a good lever action rifle. Unfortunately, it has not been used for about 15 years. That is going to change this year. Some time ago I put an peep sight or it and my son wants to try hunting without a scope, like I did when I was younger and his grandfather did. It is an extremely accurate gun and I wish him well.

Good for you. Yeah, the .270 with a scope is almost like cheating... I'm getting back into using irons too - and the peeps are the best for older eyes - and great for young eyes too. I really like the Skinner sights or XS sights as they go into the standard scope mount holes and are very minimal. You do need to put on a taller front sight though as they mount kinda high.

OSOK,
You are right. I put a Lyman peep sight on my 336C and had to put a taller front sight on it. It sure does shoot good though. I can get some decent groups at 100 yards.

It was a good year for cars also... from the 68 VW for a high school kid like me ( I wanted a green one.. got stuck with a tan one instead..)

then the 68 Chevelle SS 396, the 68 Z/28 Camero...I could only dream about those in 1968 being only 16... but now at 56, I still dream of them....

Seafire,

You should have got one then. They would have been cheaper than they are now.
