Finally broke down and traded a couple of weeks ago. Got the 4 door 4x4 Tacoma with the TRD package. It's an '08 with 18k on the clock.
So far, I'm more than pleased. I'm getting 18mpg around town and 23mpg on the highway with the V6 and 5 spd auto tranny. Anyone using theirs' to tow? I'd be interested in how it performs pulling a small camper.

I've had an 07 for a bit more than a year. Mine is basically the same truck. Mine is 4X4 and I am getting 18mpg around town as well. Around 21 is the best on road so far.
I have a Pop-Up camper that weighs about 3000 lbs when loaded and I cannot tell it is back there when towing it. I also have a 10' utility trailer that I have hauled some pretty heavy loads of firewood on. So far it has done fine for me.

Bull-
Nice choice in a truck. All I have towed with my '06 double cab is my 14' landscape trailer, but I am loving the versatility and mileage that I am getting with it (19-21mpg). Enjoy it!

My 05 will get 24 mpg if I keep it down to 55 mph......when towing a 2,ooo lb trailer the mpg drops back to 17.

Yeah the payment sucks, but at least with the Tacoma, the truck will last well beyond the payment book!
