Since ASAT camo came out yrs ago I became a firm believer in light colored open pattern camo. I found the open pattern didn't blend together into the human form at longer distances and the light background of the ASAT seemed to take on the colors of the terrain you were in. Since I couldn't afford the ASAT stuff I bought a set of military BDU's in urban camo and dyed them a light tan,which I have to do every other year. I did an informal test early in the fall where I wore my homemade camo and then a pair of coveralls in a dark close pattern commercial camo. I spiked up a different tree each time I changed camo about 15' high and about 75yds out in the thick second growth woods from the house keeping the tree between myself and the house where my wife was to look for me from. The trees were not big enough in diameter that they hid me completely as I slowly moved my arms up and down. Long story short, as I moved she found me real quick with the dark camo on and said my homemade stuff made it very hard for her to find me. When I quit moving,as she turned away and looked back,she couldn't find me with either camo. She said that as I slowly walked up out of the woods my homemade stuff definitely broke up my form better. Take it for what it's worth but I still use that homemade stuff when I bow hunt.

Camo don't matter to me, meaning the I grab whatever they have if the garment is what I want. If it don't come camo more the better, but that is seldom the case.

No... I don't wear orange 'cause there's no people where I hunt. Oregon hunters are getting frikkin' LAME. If you get a half mile from your rig, you are all alone.

I have never been a camo fan, I think camo is the ultimate rip off on todays sporting markets...earth colors work just as well, such as Khaki..IMO movement is the killer and changing wind will get you. The indigenous folks of the world never heard of camo and they do pretty well...
Oh boy, now I have ticked off the multitudes of the internet hunting world...:)

camo works in bowhunting more than rifle cause all it does is help cover movement a lil better......never had a problem rifle hunting with blaze orange and blue jeans....if you dont move they cant see yah regardless........

If I wear camo, I prefer light colors. My personal feeling is that when bow hunting or calling predators it might help some. Big game with a rifle, sitting still and not silouetting oneself is all you need.
Hiding the face and hands is the best thing to camoflage.

I would put the carbon-activated "scent control" clothing at the top of the list. But camo definitely comes a close second.

I have been geting rid of most of my camo. There is way too many different backgrounds around here. I just use light earth tones now.

Light colored stuff works best, as the dark camo patterns 'fill in' when you step back aways. Predator, ASAT, and Sitka are all pretty good, as is the new Realtree AP. You don't need camo but, I still wear it.

I have come to prefer the lighter more open patterns. I know game animals don't see exactly like humans do, but I have noticed for years that if a buddy is wearing the traditional dark camo, he sticks out like a sore thumb to me at a distance. I have switched to the cheapo Walmart Fusion 3D camo, and I swear I don't get busted by deer near as much when sneaking around scouting. They might initially see me but if I freeze, they will go back to feeding after a while for the most part, whereas with the darker stuff, I am busted for sure.
I think the effect is even more pronounced out west when stalking mule deer in the sage brush or open aspen patches.
