Dude, there's a target in the last pic. Am thinking that a 40 gr. BK would work on that one.
Check that: I KNOW that a 40 gr. BK does work on such......

Damn, I still really need a Vixen and I would leave it as a 222.
I'm thinking Timmy could shrink them groups, might want to send him a pm.......

Of course that one is someones problem.
There is a little written but well known Iowa DNR law.
All puddys are feral when past 100 yds. of a building.....

Sakos, especially the old ones, are priceless. I have a 1971 Browning Safari Heavy Barrel (Sako Forster) in .22-250 with a Unertl 12X/1 1/2" scope.
It always shot good but a few weeks ago I thought why not try the Barnes Varmint Grenade 36 gr. HPs and some Vargit, both for the first time. Velocity of the best shooting load was bit over 4,200 fps and all groups were under half inch, mostly just inside three eights! Wow! That's as good as Hornady's V-max 50 gr shoots and it's MUCH faster.
Haven't been able to varmint hunt with them yet but this is going to be Sako fun!

A pard landed a 22-250 Forester (pre-Garcia), and yes, it shoots. Highly recommend the 52 A-MAX and RL-15; scary.
Actually, the wood (factory) stocked 222 is a Stogey import, not a 12 land bbl., but it shoots great too. It posted the top left of the 222 targets. It shoots the 30 gr. Berger and the 36 VG very well too and close enough to switch ammo.
The most accurate of the three is the thumbhole 222 Bofors steel job. I was just burning up ammo. That has made one-holers with 5 different loads.

Wow indeed! That is fast (and accurate). I think I may have to look into that load for my 1963 Sako...

My Sako model 579 22-250 (1973version, shoots ummmmm well I really don't know since it's on the third (which is on it's last legs) barrel. Does this count??
Kidding here.. but yes, I am on the third barrel. The last 2 have been Smith gain twist barrels. This one still is under 1/2" if I do my part. 6100 rounds through it and counting. BTW, there is no point in looking for the proper OAL on this baby. The 60 grainer bullets need to be approximately 1/4 inch longer to even have a chance of getting to the lands.
Cheers
