Yes, that is the side mount. It uses two screws near the top of the left sideframe. Bob

Hi Richard,
I have a Marbles flip up tang sight, (older model, not current), or a Redfield reciever sight for the 99RS, or a stith set for the 7/8 tube scope.

What is the mount number you are looking for...to go on what model and what year?

Isn't the T7 the only one used on the 99?

No, not as far as I can see. Murray's book on page 5-24 shows the Savage no. 30 (Weaver 29-s) mounted on the left side of the frame of a 99. Could be ordered factory installed or gunsmith installed. The scope and mount are shown on page 5-25. Bob

Hi Rick, nice to meet you. The mount is needed for a 1940 99-T Rifle is of correct vintage for that scope and mount. (Savage number 30)

Best regards, Bob

1940 99T? Nice.. it's already drilled and tapped for that side mount?

Here's an ad from 1937 showing the same thing as in Murray's.

And, another..

I over looked the "...for a Savage 99..." statement. As far as I know the "T-7" Weaver was the only one used by Savage on pre-war rifles as picture in the catalog and ads.

The mounts you referenced on page 5-25 are not for the 99. They appears to be for a .22 or Model 23 centerfire. I have only seen ads, as posted, showing the right side of the 99 receiver and the top part of the mount. Since all the pre-war Savage scopes were made by Weaver I will assume the mounts were Weaver, also. It looks Weaver and there is no indication in the catalogs or ads that they were not.

Stroebel's book shows the "T" mount starting in 1939 in one place and 1937 in another. The same mount prior to that was the "S". I think the only difference between the S and the T was the S used one screw on each scope clamp and the T used two. If anyone know different please advise. I have not found a listing for the S codes and I have not seen a "S-7" mount.

AK, since your rifle is a 1940 production you could use either the 29-S or the 330. The 330 has gotten very pricy with everyone putting them on sniper rifles.

Could you provide me with a photo and measurements of the mounting hole locations on your rifle? Does your rifle show marks from having a mount at one time? I would think that Savage would have used a jig to locate the holes. I have not collected enough information at this time to say just where the holes should be. It might even be different for the two scopes but I doubt it. Since Savage only D&T'ed on request and little logged info is available on rifles from this period it is almost impossible to know if the rifle came from the factory D&T'ed or not.

If anyone else has info on this subject I would like to hear from you. \:\)

Hi Rick,
Thanks for all the good info. I have only been in the 99 stuff for 4 years.

The only thing I know is in Murrays book on page 5-24 it shows a 99 (looks like an R or RS) with a scope mounted. Savage says they will sell the number 30 (Weaver 29-S) and mount it for you free. That scope shown on the next page. Not familiar with the T-7.

My rifle has two holes at 2 3/8 center-to center spacing. I will try to photograph it or do measurements on it.
I do not believe it is factory tapped and therefore just may not fit that mount until I discover one and see. VERY light burring around the tapping of the holes which would not be on a factory job, but I wish to mount a scope there and make use of the ugly holes. The rifle dates to the correct period for useage for that scope and mounts.
I did get a reply on one and the owner will measure it and send photos to me, so I have my fingers crossed. Regards, Bob

Rick,
The tapped holes on the side of the 99T frame are 7/16 inch (center) from the top edge of the frame. Don't know how to attach a photo going through 24 hour campfire, so can you send me your e-mail address??

It is possible that you rifle was D&T'ed for a non-Weaver mount after purchase. I don't know the hole spacing on the Pachmayr, Jaegar, etc.. These were common side mounts and are much better quality than the old Weaver version. These can be found with 1" rings.

Anyone have hole spacings for any of the non-Weaver side mounts?

I don't think that this is what you are looking for but at least give me an "E" for effort ...

Mike,

The rifle in your picture is drilled for a Pachmayr side mount.
