I have a '91 Chevy K2500 light duty (6 bolt hubs) 4x4. I inherited it from my father and it came without a manual. I'm pretty sure the t-case uses Dextron oil but I'm not positive. Does anyone know for sure...and how much it holds?
thx, Dick

I looked it up on the Amsoil site and ATF should be the correct fluid. Capacity varies over a range of about 3.5-6.5 pints depending on what t-case you've got.

Looks like it'll be a moot issue. I had the tranny overhauled last year. I just started losing a LOT of oil, but not on the ground. The shop says it's probably blown a seal and the oil is in the t-case. They'll have to drain it to fix it, of course. The tranny is still under warranty. In the meantime, I'll find out which t-case it has. It could be any one of several they used then.

Not so lucky. It was a seal between the tranny & t-case. The oil was being pumped into the t-case, about 5 extra quarts. Unfortunatley, the seal is in the t-case, not the tranny so no warranty coverage. They did knock $50 off the labor but it still cost $200. Could have been a lot worse. At least I found out that it takes Dextron oil....and it had plenty to spare.

I'm sure $200 hurt, but you're right it could have been a lot worse.
