I am looking at a like new blued Encore receiver with a stainless 308 barrel 26". Set up as a rifle.

The seller is looking for $400 ?

Good deal, great deal?

My idea package would be 7mm-08, 35 Whelen, 223.

Thanks

Eric

I don't think you'll ever see a set up like that for less. Darn good deal, IMO.

I've got an Encore, don't need another, but if that deal came my way I'd probably take it.

The sell is back in town Sunday. Will take a look and likely bring home.

Can I ask the experts their opinion of the 45/410 barrels (15 inch). Good for casual play with clays and grouse hunting? Or is the 410 just a toy?

Thanks
Eric

I have not had a 45/410 barrel and would not have one. I have heard that they don't shoot the 45 LC that well. I also have my doubts, though I haven't personally tried it, that the 410 barrel would be all that useful a hunting tool. They also don't sell for very much on the resale market. If you get one, play with it and tell us how you like it.

Just a toy...for flying grouse at least. I have on in ten" VERY hard to hit thrown/flying objects. BTW, the 45 Colt is not accurate due to the long jump in the 3" chamber for the 410.

I think you should get it if at all practical for you. I have 3 encore frames and 6 different barrels. from .416 rigby down to 30-06. the 30-06 is a pistol. I enjoy better than average accuracy with handloads. they are very lightweight rigs and I have always liked a rifle or handgun with a hammer. The single shot advantage makes you shoot better IMO I would not pursure the 45 colt/410 option myself for reasons already posted.
I could shoot any rifle I want and I personally like these encores so much my custom G. McMillan 340 wby mag is sitting home in the safe this ELK season.

The rifle is in my safe tonight. I looking around Natchez and found a 7mm-08 barrel for a great price. Now need to find a 223 barrel and I will be set. (but then maybe a 35 Whelen).

Thanks for the input

What the others say about the .45-410 is true when shooting .45's. But I disagree on the .410 part.
Once you get on it, the 410 is very capable for grouse and other flying game. I use #6"s on pheasants over a pointer, and as long as you keep your shots limited to 20-25 yds they go down.
The key to shooting a shot pistol is to use your hips and waist/lower back to pivot,,,keep your arms and shoulder tight. And just like trapshooting, swing cover and squeeze. The 12" is alil quicker, but less forgiving than the 15". The 15" hits alil harder.
