Anybody have the burn characteristics and other specs needed by QL for Trail Boss powder? If so, or you know where I can get them, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Paul

It is not in, because it's behaviour is not same as conventional powders show.

You can safely load a rifle cartridge (I tested .308 Win and 30/06) with 150 grains SP bullets in a pressure barrel) with loading densities from 60% to 85% (air gap above powder column) giving up to 1900 fps and pressures around 35000 psi. But when you fill the cartridge up to the bullet base, pressure begins to jump up and down by about 10000 psi's. Pressure stays still in a safe region - but precision will be affected.

Good info.Thanks h broemel.

What I'm up to is trying to get some pre-construction info for a very large - between 1100 and 2400 grain - projectile in a brass 12 ga shotgun case. My goal is:
1) Subsonic velocities with 65%+ load densities,
2) Burn all the powder in a 30" barrel, and
3) Keep max pressures below 30kPSI for sure, and 20kPSI preferably.

Someone suggested that Trail Boss might be the "solution". I use QL to paper-whip wild ideas I get in order to get in the "ball park" before I start testing real-life loads. This use of QL has saved me considerable time and money.

If I understand you correctly; Trail Boss will never be "in" QL because it's burn characteristics are too far "out" to be described by QLs algorithms?

Hi, all - my first post here. I normally post at some other sites, but found this thread with Google.

QuickLoad Version 3.6 Update ($14.95) now has added Trail Boss and a few other powders to the tables.

Cheers! JohndeFresno

Pal just called, all upset "My QuickLOAD doesn't list Hodgdon's "Trail Boss!"

Of course not despite its Hodgdonish name, it's listed under IMR, just below Hodgdon 50BMG.

"Good enough" isn't.
