OK, anyone have one that knows how to use this thing? I'm shooting 3 shot groups in my 257 Roberts #1 and I may be getting closer with each 1/4 turn of the allen wrench.....is this what I continue doing until I'm satisfied with the grouping?

AND......do I do this with each load?

I made an initial light contact witht the set screw and adjusted 1/8 turn at a time. It took about 3/8 of a turn to reduce the group sizes in half from my 1B in 7mmSTW.

Went to the range this afternoon and tried the 120 Nosler Partition over 42grs of H4350------.69" @ 100 yds. After contacting the barrel with the screw, I think this may be my 4th turn....each turn being 1/4 turn of the wrench. Nevertheless, I may have found my load. However, I want to shoot 100 gr bullets......if I keep tuning to develope an accurate load with 100 grainers, will I lose accuracy with the 120's? (the 100gr Nosler Partitions are just under 2")

I can not answer that question from experience but I can guess. Since the Hick's Accurizer works by tuning barrel harmonics I would guess that a person will find a different sweet spot for each load. Much in the same way that a Browning Boss does.

Perhaps one could determine the apprpriate setting for each of the bullets you intend to shoot, and accurately reset the accurizer to that position when switching loads.

That's what I'm thinking.....I'm now considering a log of sorts to record the Hicks 'turns' for each load.

That, or I'm happy as can be with 120 Nosler Partitions under an inch.

I have generally found that if one load shoots its best at one setting of the Hicks (or any other screw-tension device on a No. 1) then accuracy will be good with other loads as well.

This doesn't mean that tweaking the tension might not get another load to shoot a little better. But it does mean that I got tired of tweaking it!

How much tension generally depends on barrel contour. I have seen light barrels that shoot best with 3 full turns after contact. Heavier barrels generally need less tension.

That's good to know, thank you for the time.

I'm heading back to the range to play with this 1B when things get back to normal in Spring/Houston. I'll follow up with my results......I'm hoping I can get the Hornady 100 SP to hit the same point of aim as the Noslers.

I'll back what MD is saying. I have a 1A in 243 with a Hicks. I tuned it for 70 grain Ballastic Tips. I've used it with other loads and weights, specifically 100 grain Partitions and 75 V-Max and they all group really well. I don't screw with the Hicks any more. (I suppose I could try and tune it for each load but I know I would forget which load it was tuned for at some point).

As a tip, I found that it works best to tune the Hicks with the foreend off (resting the rifle on it's hanger while shooting). After you have found the sweet spot, then put the foreend back on. I tried tuning with the forend in palce but there was enough movement in the barrel/forend that the fore-end was binding a little bit on the receiver.

With tuning with the fore-end off, and then installing the fore-end there is no binding of the fore-end on the reciever.
