A 22 caliber 62 grain TSX at 3000 FPS or a 30 caliber 110 grain TSX at 2200FPS assuming solid lung shots with both.

Dead is Dead but in my thinking, the 62 grain TSX at .223 velocities would blow up the lungs a little better.

I've killed some feral hogs at the Ranch with my S&W M&P AR in .300 ACC using the 110 gr TTSX Hornady Factory rounds at 2350 fps, and while the hogs died almost immediately, it just punched a hole right through both lungs. Didn't retrieve the bullet, though.

It depends if you like eating up to the bone which might need a bit more tracking (not much - say 80 yards), Or if you want to smoke'em where they are and waste some meat ( not much).

so the 30 cal 110 grain TSX at 2200 was a bit under powered.

It penatrated all the way through. Just didn't seem to expand much at that velocity

that expansion stuff with hard bullets thru the lungs is always a dilemma! I just picked lungs as a comparison point but never shoot them there. For the average shooter I think lungs is an easier target however.

If slinging Blackouts you wanna be in 110gr TTSX Blacktip mode. That bullet makes an 8" Blackout do things it shouldn't.

Neither would be my first choice but if they were my only choices the 223 would be first. If a different bullet could be substituted in 308 that would be my preference. At 2200 MV you are pushing the lower limit of velocity for the TSX IMHO.

In Colorado where I live and do most of my hunting, the .22 cal bullet would be illegal for deer, because the minimum legal cal for deer is 24. So that leaves the .30 cal bullet and 2,200 fps is pretty slow muzzle velocity. Must have a trajectory like a rainbow.

You asked "which is more lethal?" Dead is dead. Solid lung shots from both will kill a deer. So there's no such thing as "more lethal". If I lived and hunted in a state where both calibers were legal, and I had only those calibers/bullets to choose from, I would opt for the faster muzzle velocity and the flatter trajectory that comes with it.

My thoughts are the same as what Blacktailer wrote, neither would be my first choice.

When I've used a 30 cal bullet for deer, it has been a 30-06, 150 grain BTSP at 2,900 fps.

But my first choice is a 25-06, 117 grain BTSP at 3,030 fps.

If I wanted to use a smaller, faster bullet it would be 25-06, 85 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip at 3,550 fps.

I've killed deer with 53 grain TSXs at 3000 and at 3300. They work good.

I've tested 130 grain TTSXs down that slow, but not the 110s. I wouldn't trust them beyond about 100 feet. Just not enough velocity to open them well. If you can get a .30 cal like the 30-30 TSX 150 or the .357 125 grain, those will open at much lower velocity. The 30-30 opened for me down below 1500. The .357 opened below 900.

It is by AAC. Purchased brand new last month for a hog hunt. Cloverleafs at 100 with Barnes TSX. Love the rifle; round not as potent as anticipated and would rather have the

stuff I shoot with the 223 seems dead enough.

I dearly love the TSX/TTSXs, but I really don't want to use them below 2100. I try to keep a little above the 1800 give or take that they will open decently at as insurance.

I wouldn't be all that surprised did Barnes decide to produce a 100 grain TSX with that big hollow point like in the 30-30 150 grain. The BC will be pee poor of course, but for 30-30s and 300 AACs it would be a useful tool. I think the 30-30 bullet is well more than tough enough to handle 3000 FPS.

OK! Your point is made, I finally looked them up, back ordered at Midway $35.00/50, comparable to my 62 grain TTSX load and with a very interesting performance claim. I hate this place, I am always finding some new way to waste money here.

The black tips are softer, or is there just a bigger hole in the front? It may be a consideration for a 30 cal handgun, if designed for the lower speed of the Blackout.

so those black tips produce more hydrophonic shock? I heard you need a magnum for the hydrophonic shock to work.

They're designed to completely upset at 1,300 FPS.

I'll try to hang some pics up tomorrow for a visual.

I am wondering if the fast 1-7 twist rate has something to do with the expansion and if faster (1-6) or (1-5) is better at those velocities.
