The Redding Master hunter dies in 30-06?
I am considering getting some of these. I dont know anything about the Redding micrometer seater though. Do they click when adjusted? Or is it just a dial? Does it have a lock nut or how do they work?
Do they produce consistent ammo? JB said that they may require some fiddling to get them to size case necks straight.
Any first hand experience would be appreciate if you could pass along your opinions.

The Redding FL rifle dies I have seen don't have an air bleed hole in the die.
Thus they are more likely to dent brass.
RCBS FL rifle dies have air bleed holes!

All guns should be locked up when not in use!

If you don't over lube you won't dent brass.
I've dented brass with RCBS dies, but never with Redding dies.
You didn't use logic or reason to get into this opinion, I cannot use logic or reason to get you out of it.

The Master hunter is the standard Redding FL die paired with their competition seating die. I'd opt for the Forester sizing die, and match that with either the Forester or Redding competition seating die. Since redding is essentially infringing on Foresters seater design they both produce very straight ammo.
The Redding comp seater does not have clicks.

Savage99, i have resized several thousand rounds with a Redding FL die and NEVER had a case dent. Im not saying it cant happen, but i have never had it happen. The dies i am replacing are RCBS and though they work, i think i messed up the FL die and i want to replace it. Plus, some dirty brass got used in my dies when my friend did some loading with them, and now the dies scratch the brass. Its just time for a new set.

I replaced just about all of my RCBS dies with Redding competitions. I really like the seater dies. Haven't dented any brass when sizing either.

Seems he has his panties in a bunch over some perceived slight towards him? Who knows. Anyone with any useful input is welcome to chime in though. You won't dent brass if you decap it first, unless you over-lube

The only brass I put dents in the shoulder was some years ago.
As a newbee I lubed the whole length of the case (I was thorough) and when sizing, the lube is squeegeed down the neck, sits on the shoulder and dents the shoulder, Rats!
Lube the bottom 3/4 of the case only!
These days I use a dry neck lube and then lube the bottom 2/3 of the case as per usual.
It eliminates dented shoulders and bullets seat nicely!
PS, the micrometer seating dies have no clicks but are firm and hold a setting well. Using an allen wrench you can remove the numbered top and "Zero" it for reference.
I'm cheap and only have two, 26-28 standard seaters.
