I read somewhere that Hathcock was shooting a 173 grain Sierra BT at 2550fps. Is that the best you could get out of an 06 back in the 60's, was he shooting stock military ammo?

My guess is that it was Lake City match ammo. 2550 was the velocity of the .308 match ammo with the 173gn bullet and I read somewhere that the -06 was more like 2650. Pic from the web.

Carlos Hathcock used LC M72 Match Ammo using the 173 grain M1 bullet at 2640 FPS. His record is still impressive.
