My dad passed on a beautiful Weatherby Vanguard. It has very blond wood and a dark knurl at the back end. I love the wood but hate the weight, shape and sheen of the stock and would like to have it shaped into a Remington Classic style stock with an oil finish.

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith htat does good work with wood?

By time you pay someone to reshape the stock and refinish it, you may be money ahead to find a preshaped stock at Boyd's or Wenigs in the shape you're looking for and have someone finish it up or do it yourself. They really aren't that hard to finish once in the 99% inlet stage.

Where are you located?

Sheister,

I really wanted to use the stock that was on the rifle since it was my dads.

I used to live in Louisiana but am in South Carolina now.

I also think Weatherby stocks are a god awful clash of angles, curves and lines; but, to me, reshaping Dad's stock no longer makes it "Dad's stock" as that is what he liked. I second the advice on finding a replacement stock to use in the field and saving the original for another day. After all, once you remove wood from the original you can't ever grow it back.
