no, whle the pneumothorax collapse of the lung is an aid to a swifter kill on the animal, it's not fast enough to help you in a gun fight. Anyone can hold their breath for 30 seconds, and anyone can shoot you 4x per second. The blood trail, so useful to us for finding the dead critter, is of no advantage in a defensive fight

If, instead of 12" of penetration (ie, exit wound) and a transferred 300 ft lbs of power to the man, I could get 2 wound tracks (bullet split lengthwise, segments tumble) 600 ft lbs of power and have the bullet stop in the man, same load, same recoil, but could "only" get 6" of penetration, I"d take that performance in a heartbeat over the 100% greater penetration. Cause my way is easily proven to offer a much greater likelihood of the required instant stop

What if the bad guy is hiding behind a car door?

Your thinking is one dimensional, and that's why it's flawed.

Nope, I'd never accept anything that doesn't have the ability to blow through.

It might not, but I don't want 6 inches of penetration to be a door, and then a coat etc... and possibly, very possibly, never make it to the vitals.

A perfect world this is not.

As some disturbed individuals are wearing body armor these days, what will you do.

How many individuals hold their breath for 30 seconds after being shot.

Your flawed thinking could get you killed...

OP is also assuming a chest hit. What if your bullet impacts in the upper thigh or through the hips? In those instances I would want to be breaking bones, taking my opponents mobility from him.

In addition, an "instant stop" is usually the result of a debilitating hit to the central nervous system. This means a bullet that will reliably break the spine.

I get the feeling the OP hasn't done very much hunting....or at least he hasn't killed much game.

If you want one shot stopping power then shoot them in the head or spinal cord or maybe use 00 Buck at close range.

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Gimme a write up on this, curious about your thoughts, if any.
