Just wondered if anyone on the fire was hunting in the Adirondacks this year. I'm heading up near Schroon Lake to do some hiking with a gun and hoping to see some horns. Looking forward to some peace and quiet.

I hunted the High Peaks Wilderness area all day this past Sunday. I had 10 confirmed doe sightings, the most I have ever had in a single day of Adirondack hunting. It was windy and heavy rain at times, and the deer seemed totally unafraid of me, really a bizarre day. To put this in perspective how unusual this was, in 2011 or 20012 I saw a total of 3 deer all season, 10 or 11 full, sunrise to sunset days, 4-12 miles each day. Tomorrow morning you can be sure I'll be back there.

We're heading to Hoffman's notch area, hunted there a few years ago and didn't see many deer, but that was expected. But the first deer I saw was a shooter, only saw him for a second and he dissapeared into some christmas tree size pines on the back of a beaver swamp. Going to see if he's still hanging around those parts. Its the ones that get away that keep you coming back, or so I've heard.

God Bless,
MM

I used to hunt in Wells and Newcomb a lot. Never saw a lot of deer but some of the ones you did see would just about make you stroke out! Nothing like a big ADK buck!!! But they don't come easy!
