Hello all, Is there a DIY home gunkote finish for a carbon steel handgun or hunting rifle or is krylon my best bet. Does make it easy for touchups.
thank you Erich

Gunkote works best over a phosphate finish like Parkerizing and is great for handguns and moving parts as it resists abrasion and adds lubricity, but otherwise, for stocks and barrels Krylon works. While Gunkote is an excellent and durable finish, I really can't imagine using Krylon on a handgun.
It ain't all burritos and strippers my friends...

I use Duracoat. I have a diaphragm air compressor and an airbrush kit I got from Harbor Freight. I'd like to have slightly more air capacity and pressure, but it does okay as long as I'm patient and don't get ahead of it causing paint boogers. I also mix my paint a little thin too.
Rattle-can will work if that's all you have. I just cringe at the thought.

Thank you all, that is what I needed. I bet there is a shipping up charge for something like gunkote in the mail.
Thanks again Erich
