What are everyone's thoughts on the eye relief on the 3-9 HD? 3" seems pretty short at 9x. I'm looking for a scope for a lightweight 300 WSM that will be shot at funny angles at times. I'm a little worried about eating the thing with 3" eye relief. I'm curious about this too. I have an ss 6x42 but haven't used it yet, I believe it's also 3". I shoot a 3-9 SS on a Winchester model 70 .300 WSM that is fairly lightweight, and have no issue. I would mount it on a .300 WSM Kimber Montana in a heartbeat. I've also shot it on a 7mm Remington Magnum and another on a .280 Ackley Improved. It has become my favorite scope.

Eye relief has is/has been a none issue. I have used them on a 300WinMag with a sporter barrel and Manners carbon fiber stock, 300 Weatherby's, and a 300 Jarret. Also 7mm RM, and a Blaser R93 in 338WM.
If people have an issue with this scope and eye relief, they really have an issue with crawling the stock/mounting the gun. It's not critical.

I do not have any rifles with a very significant kick. Since my 338LM has a brake, the worst is probably my 458SOCOM.
I had a 3-9x42 on it while developing loads for it and had no issues off the bench or prone.

I had a SWFA 3-9. I was the second owner. Eye relief was a non issue but it showed about an inch to an inch and a half of parallex at 100 along with some aberration on the edges. I sold it and plan to get a NF SHV with side focus.

No. Not HD. It was a good optic. Just not what I needed.

Ilya,
Do you know if the side-focus seal design on the SS 3-15x is the same as other tactical scopes? I pulled the SF knob off a 3-15x accidentally and was surprised to see the guts of the scope under the SF knob. The design didn't inspire confidence in terms of longterm sealing, but this might be standard design practice as I've never pulled the SF knob off of any other scopes.

Most side-focus designs are done in roughly similar manner. There are minor variations here and there, but the basic construction is similar. Now, if you were able to ust pull the turret off, there had to be a QC glitch. I presume the replaced the scope for you, right? ILya No QC glitch... just an operator malfunction! I put the cap back on quick, then froze the scope to check for condensation. Its a plinker scope and if it fogs, I'll purge it at work with a makeshift chamber.
