I'm no expert on these Colts and this is the only picture I have. Supposed to be pre war vintage. $1500 Is anything not correct here? The frame is marked US Government Property. Will get to look at it later. Opinions please Thanks, Ken

That's a 1911, NOT a 1911A1, you can tell by looking at the frame, it's not an A1 frame. The slide is WWI vintage, too.

While a Marine might have carried it in 1943, it's not a 1911A1.

It's possible that the grip safety and hammer have been replaced, too.

I don't think it's worth that kind of money as a 1911A1, because it ain't one. I dunno the kind of money a 1911 brings these days, but that isn't an A1.

I think it is a mix master. It looks good so that should scare you. I sold a WW1 frame for $850, so prices can be silly.

Need more pictures, more detail.
If original WW1 then that's a nice pistol.

Update, I'm getting this info second hand. This supposed to be a pre war gun. Does it look correct now?

Nice old Colt. I'd need FAR more pics than that to get an idea as to whether it's original or whether it's a parts pistol. The seller should provide a good bit more as far as pics, and those would help.

In comparing your photo to some in Clawson's book it does look similar. You will need more photos and detailed photos and serial number , etc....

As stated that's an original 1911 not an A1. And by pre-war, it's certainly pre WW II but it could be pre WW I.

The hammer and grip safety are correct for that model. The grips are correct but look awfully new for a pre WW I pistol, they may have been replacements. As stated, we would need a lot more photos to confirm all is genuine, but it looks pretty genuine from the photo you provided. Would need a photo of the other side of the gun at the very least. Provided it's not the Colt WW I reproduction, $1,500 is a downright decent price. For some reason the WW I pistols are worth less than the WW II A1's (I've never quite understood that).

If it was made in 1919 the serial number would be 580601- 629500. Total of 48,900 pistols made for the military. Production of military models was then suspended until 1924 which is the first year of production for the A1 for the military.

About 55- 60 years ago my family was looking at some real estate and the realtor was a nice old fellow. I was talking to him and asked him if he did any shooting. He said, "Some", and took out a beautiful blued 1911 that he had brought back from WWI. He carried it around in his car under the front seat in some soft container--I don't really remember that too much.

Looked about like the photo in this thread. Didn't want to sell it.
