Anybody still using a Pancake? I have one that I got second hand for nothing because the eyebox had come unglued. I puzzle pieced it all back together and stuck a gold lense in it. Little bit of sanding on the balsa nose block so it fits comfortably and I use it at least 3x per week doing light TIG jobs.
My boss when I was a weldor's helper wouldn't use anything else. They are nice for ventilation if it's hot summertime outside.
I guess "Light" is the operative word,....The last big shop I worked in had a white drop ceiling, and I found that I had to be extremely careful about "Back Flash",....e.g. reflected bounce off the ceiling, coming in and bouncing off the inside of the lens.
Was doing a lot of heavy cast aluminum, ....5/32" tungstens at higher amps, and all sortsa' strange freqs.
Just thought that worth tossing into the pool.
