I recently bought a 7x57 at a shop and with the rifle came two boxes of hornady high performance ammunition. All of one box had been shot and much of the second had also. I fired several rounds testing for accuracy and velocity. When I went to resize the cases I found that the brass would not fit in the proper shell holder. It is too thick in the groove above the rim. Have others had this experience?

I had similar issues with some 243 brass of theirs, so yeah.

Had it happen with some 308. It's a common problem with Hornady brass.

So how did you overcome the issue?

I threw it away, and used a different brand that was made right in the 1st place.

Thanks for the replies. The ammo was accurate enough but velocity was erratic and the primers flattened. I get better results in every way with H 4350 than Hornady produces.

That's too bad. I've used 'some' Frontier brass in yrs. gone bye and had no problems THEN.

It's a shame they're not reliable now. Especially when reloading components can be very hard to find.

I'm surprised and disappointed in Hornady in this regard. I've used their bullets since the mid 70s and haven't had any problems.

I've only used one box of their ammo, .22 Hornet, 15 years ago, but bought 250 new .243 cases last year from 2 lots and had no trouble. In fact, it's excellent brass. Since all brass was pretty scarce at the time, I was happy to get it.

Just for grins, have you checked the unfired rounds to see if they fit in the shellholder? If they do, that would be alarming to me.

I've used considerable Hornady brass, including a lot in the past couple of years, with zero problems. In general I've found it above average, and some is excellent.

I recently bought 50 pcs of component brass and had a couple boxes worth of factory Hornady brass for my 300 Win Mag. The brass is good, although it seems pretty soft. I haven't weight sorted or measured neck thickness, but accuracy is good to great and I'm on my 4th loading of 71.0 gr IMR 4831 and a 180 TTSX. Primer pockets still tight and everything looks great. I may get around to weighing them this winter, but really I'm not much inclined given the accuracy has been fine.

I've been really happy with it and can't tell any difference in performance between the two lots, although I keep them separate anyways. Seems like great brass to me.

I have once fired Hornady brass in .300 Weatherby that 4 out of 20 cases the primers would fallout when attempting to seat.

Once fired .308 brass where the primer pockets were too small, both Win and Rem primers were badly distorted. As well a number with the rims would not fit into the shell holder.
