I have a bunch of range brass most of it LC. I have cleaned it, resized, trimmed, deburred inside flash hole, removed primer crimp, and uniformed the primer pockets. Do I need to anneal too?

Scott.

I recommend annealing it every 4th reload if you plan to keep it a long time.. also a little prudence on the powder scale will increase the life span of the brass quite a bit..

especially in a bolt action.. although I understand you just took the plunge into the AR World...

Yes, John, I have taken a stem into the dark side. blush

This will be interesting, I have owned three 223s in my life and there was nothing I could do to get them to shoot. Had a Ruger 77 that did hold nine of then shots on a paper plate and a hundred yards but that was after working on it for a year. The other two never got groups patterns that good. crazy

If the AR can't do it any better it will become a 300 Blackout.

Scott,

if you've had 223s that won't shoot, it certainly wasn't the round itself....

a handloaded 223 is hard to screw up... not quite as accurate as a 222, but can be pretty close...

there had to be other issues.. unless you bought them used with a shot out barrel...

I've had them that were tack drivers even with as high as 15,000 plus rounds down the barrel...

maybe we should talk...

I think I just got lucky and got three bad ones on a row. The Ruger went to someone who was going to rebarrel it, the TC went to someone who wanted it for close up plinking and he isn't having a lot better than I did. The last one was well used and I really can't remember what happened to it. I am really looking forward to trying out the AR. I have loaded up a hundred 55 gr V-Max using two different powders. When I get a chance to get to the range I plan on seeing what it likes.

No. LC has already been annealed. Perhaps after 10 or so firings, or when you start noticing less resistance when seating bullets you may want to consider annealing.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.
