I have one in .35 wheelen that I bought when MS made .35 legal for "primitive season" (2010).

Killed a fair amount of deer with it.

No tack driver, but 1 1/4" groups @ 100yd shooting off a corn sack.

Trigger was set @ 6+ lbs. But remedied that by sending to Jim Hendershot. He changed the springs and made it a crisp 2 1/2#.

I hunt with prohunter the majority of the time, even during regular rifle season. I like the single shot. And its short and handle to move around.

I have a .243 Pro Hunter and it is easily the most accurate rifle I own. I have had 5 shot ragged holes on many occasions. You won't be disappointed.

The barrel is 28 inch fluted but the rifle feels really balanced. I have hunted with it on a few occasions but haven't shot anything. My wife claims now that it is 'her' rifle because she shoots it the whole time we are at the range. I think she likes its simplicity.

I started with the T/C Encore/ Prohunter as most shooters with the muzzle loading rifle. I eventually added two rifle barrels a 25-06 28" pro hunter and a T/C custom shop in 250 Savage with the stainless sported weight (.75 muzzle diameter). Both barrels are .75 shooters on a bad day with very little load development.

My little 250 savage has become my favorite rifle, light weight with good balance and has shot the Hornady 100 gr, 117 gr round nose and 117 gr SST... sub MOA.

In my opinion you don't need the heavier barrel for accuracy yet in the calibers above 280 the added weight of the pro hunter barrels does soften the recoil.

In choosing a barrel I strongly suggest the "26" pro hunter barrel with the weather shield finish. The added two inches of the 28 inch pro hunter barrels is really not needed. the 26 inch barrel makes a handier carry rifle.

The attraction of the T/C pro hunter for most shooters is the simplicity of the rifle.

Do add a Mike Bellm 1X over sized hinge pin to your barrel/frame....best $25.00 you will spend on a T/C

Can you elaborate on that?

I'm just wondering how bad it's gonna kick in a 30-06 or 7mm?

I had a 7rm barrel for a short while. Buddy wanted it more than I did.

Recoil wasn't bad. I'd say no more than my rem700 7rm.

My .35 whelen has a fluted ported ( from the factory, only seen 2 like it l) and it's a pleasure to shoot. Just loud as all get out.

Google Mike Bellm who is the T/C Encore gunsmith Guru. He makes custom hinge pins to tighten the barrel/frame alignment which reduces the torque when the rifle is fired.

A hunting buddy asked me to sight in a T/C 24 inch sported barrel for him
in 30-06 he had bought for $90.00. After a few shots I soon realized why he only payed $90.00 for the barrel. The lack of weight in the rifle made it rock and roll upon firing.....not an enjoyable day at the range with a T/C.

I have a 30-06 that does 1-1.25 inches for 3 shots with a Bergara barrel. It is a pleasure to shoot with the prohunter stocks, and is one of my favorite guns to shoot offhand. I load it with a starting load of imr4831 and a Sierra 150 prohunter, just because I have so many of them and they work at the speed I am seeing. If we are splitting hairs, Corelokts are a little more accurate, though.

My PH took quite a few mods to shoot well, but now it's a solid MOA performer. Mike Bellm was a great help with lining out the issues.

I did add a Bellm lug spring, 1x hinge pin and hammer spiny to make my be more consistent. Before that it would walk after a couple of shots.

I know haw ya feel. I bought a thinner barrel in 45-70 gov. It's 22" . That thing kicks something fierce. I never shoot the thing . I did however start using cast bullets with 12? gr Unique. Not bad at all but with 34gr IMR 4227 / 350 jacket bullet is terrible .
