Ed my heritage is the same as yours and as a kid, recall being dragged around rocks and surf with my maternal grandparents picking mussels and periwinkles for a tomato gravy.

That got it started and I never stopped. Seafood of some kind gets served here 3-4 times a week.

Growing up in Rhode Island, during the '40's and '50's, and being fishermen, we had seafood often. Seafood was abundant and cheap. Haddock, tuna, bass, eels, lobster, clams (Quohogs, Little Necks,...). Sometimes yearn for fried clams and clam cakes. And coffee cabinets (coffee milkshakes)

Pal; The food we all considered "cheap" back then has become gourmet quality and expensive today!

every 2 weeks or so, the girlfriend and I pick up a 50 count bag of little necks.

Man...steam them critters and dip them in some melted butter.... That right there is some Good Eats.
