May interest some so am posting.
I picked up this 1956 Brno model 21 7x64 with Hensoldt 8x in claw mounts and a ZG47 safety as a spare parts machine, it's stock is knocked about but the metalwork and bore are in extremely good condition, if it has had more than 100 rounds through the barrel I cannot see it.


Because spares are always handy.

It will allow me to keep this 1950 model 21 in 7x64 going indefinitely. I intend to put the ZG47 safety on the 1950 rifle as I prefer the ZG47 safety setup.

Rifles existing like that is why I can't warm up to the El Cheapo Rifles, with the Tupperware Stocks etc, that seem to be the darlings of the Campfire Culture as of late...

like the Ruger American for example.

I'm with ya on the cheapos for my use, but I can understand the attraction they hold for some. You can buy one, shoot the pooey out of it and then sell it for maybe half what you paid or maybe more. A lot cheaper than re-barreling. What I don't understand is taking a cheapo and then spending a fortune tarting it up in hopes of making a "nice" rifle out of it. I suppose you could always pull the upgrades off when you're done and screw 'em on the next one. And I've got to say that the aluminum chassis and box mag setup that H22 has on his RAR looks badazz, if not "nice".

The one on the left is a 1956 Brno ZG47 Deluxe in .270 my brother now has, had I kept it I would have saved myself some thirty grand and had pretty much what I have now.

But I do have an itch for model 21's.



Probably would have been cheaper to be a drug addict instead.

I never see rifles like that around here.

I have three ZG-47s. Two 30-06 and a 8x57.

They are destined to become 7x57(64), 9,3x62 & 404 Jeffery.

Just have to pay of the house first


Also having a ZG-47 safety fitted to a Husqvarna 640 action now.. I prefer this safety to any "Win 70" safety.

Hello Northman, I would bet London to a brick the wider ZG47 action/mag would be perfect for a .375 Ruger.

Speaking of the ZG-47 safety, is it on the right side of the shroud and pivots fore and aft.? I presume it also locks the bolt when applied? Is it that much superior to the Brno safety on the left side? Thanks

Hello Joe, it does pivot forward for on and aft for off, and it does lock the bolt. I prefer it to the 21 left side safety as I find it easier and quicker to push fore and aft from the right than I do pushing the 21 left side unit up and down.
That said, the 21 unit is tidier and cleaner in aspect, I would generally say that the 21 unit doesn't lock the bolt but I had a 1956 unit that did by virtue of a small screw in the back of the unit that added this facility.

With Brno there is nothing set in stone and no absolutes.
