I would appreciate if someone could direct me to a source of production information for recent Model 70's. I have bought a "M70 LW Super Grade" - new in its box, never fired in 7mm Mauser (7x57). While attempting to research on Internet, I found various references in various auction postings that only 165 of these were made in a short run during 2014. At the same time, I came across references to a Model 70 made to Cabela's specification - described on its box as "M70 Cabelas LW SG Bolt Action Rifle", which also was chambered in 7mm Mauser (7x57).
There appears to be many hundreds of dollars difference in pricing, and I have seen at least one discussion board showing the buyer had bought a Cabelas commemorative, but thinking it was one of the 165 run.
Any clarification, and especially any direction to proper source of information would be greatly appreciated.

Which one is more expensive? I remember seeing the Cabela's rifles for sale everywhere (If I remember correctly somewhere around $800.00). They are damn nice rifles with nice wood. Funny thing about the difference between the 2 rifles in question is the floor plate. The cabela's rifle has tacky gold lettering on it. Is there any other differences that I am not aware of????? What is the price difference and how much does a floor plate cost???

I find there is no difference in pricing on the two variants, the Cabelas vs. the standard LW SG. Both models run around $1500. As to the 165 rifles, my sources cannot state whether the 165 pertained to the Cabelas purchase or the standard non-fubarred model - or a combination of both. However they did say that the retailer started the ball rolling and BACO decided to add to it.


Maybe someone here with "deeper" contacts can straighten out the 165 claim.

The one I have was very accurate out of the box. Actually had decent action bedding. The second, is still in the wings - waiting.

As I continue to review Auction descriptions and other write-ups on the Internet, it appears that another difference (other than the floor plate) is that the Cabelas version apparently was spec'd with Grade II wood, whereas the "run of 165" had Grade IV / V wood. Could it be possible that the run of 165 were made for the 2014 Shot Show?

The Cabelas run had a retail price of $1799 and had much nicer wood than the regular run for the shot show. They did go on sale from time to time at a slighly reduced price. Below are the three Cabelas LTD. 7x57's that I purchased.

Potato digger: yes the unmolested version came out for the 2014 Shot Show.

I'm wondering if any of you in possession of one of these rifles happened to put it on a scale?

Yes I have. My two weigh 7# 8oz. and 7# 7 oz. - out of the box.

The one I have I bought off here last year. The wood is amazing, red pad and shoots like a house of fire. The floor plate is engraved but doesn't have gold on it.

Are these the long action or the short action?
