That is all happening just an hour or two east of me down I-40. That is a pretty rough area, lots of drug problems, lots of drug trafficking up and down I-40. Local news this morning says he is still on the run. I imagine he went back east again, that is his area that he knows. He could disappear down into the SW side of OKC and be really hard to find. Last year educated me on how much of a cesspool that part of the city really is.

Manhunt continues for suspect in shooting rampage that injured two officers, killed aunt and uncle

Published: October 24, 2016 6:55 AM CDT

WELLSTON — The suspect who shot two Wellston police officers Sunday made a Facebook video afterward, saying, “This is more intense than what I thought it was going to be,” authorities said.

Bleeding from the shoot-out, the suspect fled in an officer's pickup, carjacked a getaway vehicle at a Lincoln County trailer park and then drove to the home of his aunt and uncle near Luther, authorities said. He brutally killed them both, almost severing his uncle's head, then stole their car, authorities said.

The last known sighting of the suspect was early Monday after he attempted to steal a motor home at a truck stop along Interstate 40 near Sayre in western Oklahoma.

The suspect in the crime spree was identified as Michael Dale Vance Jr., 38, of Chandler, who already was facing a child sexual abuse charge.

Vance remained at large Monday while being sought by federal, state and county agencies. Rumors of his return east to Lincoln County circulated Monday afternoon.

"We just want to get this guy," said Charles Dougherty, the Lincoln County sheriff. "He's on a mission to hurt people. It would break my heart if he killed someone over a set of car keys."

Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

The wounded officers were identified as Jim Hampton and Shawn Stewart.

Hampton, one of two full-time officers with the Wellston Police Department; Stewart, a certified reserve officer, and Alfred Hancock, a reserve in training, responded to a call about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in rural Lincoln County, along with a sheriff's deputy.

The lawmen approached a group of six to nine people who had guns displayed in the bed of a pickup. All went smoothly until the officers asked for IDs.

Wellston Police Chief Tim Estes said that's when Vance started shooting, first with a .22 and then with an AK-47-style weapon.

"This was a full-out gunfight. You don't see that often," said Estes, who likely would have been on the scene himself had he not been returning from a hunting trip in rural northwest Oklahoma.

Vance shot Hampton in the foot, said Estes. Vance also shot Stewart. The officers are recovering from wounds to "their lower extremities" and are said to be “doing well and will be recovering at home soon," authorities said.

Estes said officers couldn't return fire initially as Vance stood behind a group of people, including women. But Hampton pulled out his service weapon, a 9 mm, and shot Vance in the shoulder before Vance fled in a Wellston police pickup.

Two officers shot near Wellston; manhunt underway
Another man, identified as Tony Heavner, was apprehended a short time later, an investigator with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office reported in a court affidavit.

Authorities said Vance drove the police pickup into the adjacent neighborhood, a mobile home community called Bear Creek.

Johnathan Chouinard, 28, had just driven himself and his four-weeks pregnant wife Jamie, 27, home from dinner with her father. Chouinard recognized the police pickup as Hampton's and wondered what the officer might want. The pickup ripped ahead of the couple's car and skidded to a stop diagonally in front of it. Chouinard didn't recognize the man who got out of the pickup but briefly thought the man, who bled from the shoulder, was an undercover officer who had been in a shoot-out.

Authorities say the man was Vance.

He came up to the driver's side of the couple's 1996 Lincoln Towncar holding what looked like an AK-47 with a scope and laser, pointing it toward the ground. He told Chouinard "Get the f--- out," Chouinard recalled.

community located south of SH 66 west of Wellston on Monday. Chouinard said the marks were left when shooting
suspect Michael Vance stopped the stolen police vehicle he was driving abruptly in front of Chouinard and his wife,
Jamie, Sunday night, blocking their path as they were coming home from dinner with family. The dark spots on
the ground are a result of leaking engine fluids coming from the vehicle Vance was driving, Chouinard said.

The couple got out and tried to take cover behind a mobile home; Chouinard saw a green laser on the white trailer as they moved away. The car stalled; the man asked Chouinard if it worked.

Chouinard assured the man his car worked and told him to turn the key again.

On the way out, Chouinard said, the man in the car shot two times at a trailer, injuring a woman inside.

Sheriff Dougherty said he thought Vance shot at the mobile home on the way into the community. Either way, the bullet hit an item and shrapnel injured a woman at the property. She refused medical treatment.

Looking back, Chouinard said he is thankful he and his wife got away.

"We are blessed," he said.

9:30 p.m.

Reports came in that the same Lincoln Towncar stolen from the mobile home community was at a rural Luther residence, which prompted Oklahoma City police to send a helicopter over the home at 17110 NE 206, the residence of Vance's uncle. From the air, authorities spotted a body, according to court documents.

Law enforcement sent a bomb robot onto the property and police confirmed a man there was dead.

Authorities found a second dead victim inside, identifying the victims as Vance's aunt and uncle, Valerie Kay Wilkson, 54, and Ronald Everett Wilkson, 55, Oklahoma County sheriff's office spokesman Mark Opgrande said.

Michael Dale Vance Jr. wanted poster
According to the affidavit, Ronald Wilkson was shot once with ammunition traditionally fired from an AK-47 style rifle. Valerie Wilkson suffered multiple stab wounds, the investigator reported. Both victims reportedly had large cuts to their necks.

"Wounds were found on R. Wilkson consistent with an attempt to sever his head," according to the affidavit. "V. Wilkson, too, had a large cut on the side of her neck similar to the wound witnessed on R. Wilkson."

The investigator also reported that based on a large cut to Valerie Wilkson's shoulder, it appeared "Vance was trying to remove V. Wilkson's arm."

Authorities reported Vance stole from the residence a gray or silver 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse, with Oklahoma license plate 943 LQQ, and left in an unknown direction.

A man, who only identified himself as a son of the victims, told The Oklahoman outside of their home on Monday "all we know is our parents were killed … we've got people still coming in from out of town,” and refused further comment.

Monday, 2:38 a.m.

At 2:38 a.m. Monday, the Sayre Police Department and Beckham County deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a gas station off Interstate 40. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that a man drove into the parking lot of the Flying J truck stop near Sayre and attempted to steal a motor home. Authorities reported the suspect shot the vehicle's owner twice in the leg during the altercation but was unable to gain access to the motor home.

The victim, Randy Frost, 47, was taken to a hospital before being transported to an Oklahoma City hospital.

According to the Beckham County sheriff's office, Vance, who is still considered to be armed, was last seen driving westbound on Interstate 40 from the gas station in the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Suspected slayer posts to Facebook

In a video obtained from Vance's Facebook account by an Oklahoma City television station, Vance can be seen just after the shooting inside the Wellston officer's patrol vehicle, saying “it hurts, let me tell you it hurts, it sucks,” referring to being wounded in the shoot-out with officers.

“This is more intense than what I thought it was going to be, to say the least. … I'm about to steal another car, like right now, this ... is going to be intense. Watch this people,” Vance says as the video fades to black.

A second video, shot inside a different vehicle, shows Vance point the camera to a gun and say “Look, this is real, see that's a … gun, that's the real deal, this … ain't a joke, this ain't a prank, I'm going live if you want to know what's up next, stay tuned to your local news.”

Vance can be heard talking about being set up and thanking an unknown person for their support, and that “I know we didn't get the vest, but it will be all right.”

The video ends with Vance describing being shot as painful and ignoring a phone call, saying “I love you sis, I'm not answering the phone, it's too late now.”

Vance was charged in July in Lincoln County with child sexual abuse, after a former felony conviction. He is accused in the sexual abuse charge of an offense against a 15-year-old girl at a house in Chandler in July. He told police he did not do anything because he was asleep, according to a court affidavit. The prior conviction is a bogus check offense from 2001.

He is described as 5 foot, 11 inches tall, weighing about 210 pounds and has “a medical condition and may try to spread disease,” according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

In a statement released Monday morning, Opgrande said Vance may have returned to the Oklahoma City or Lincoln County area and "others may be in danger." He said Vance might attempt to carjack or steal another vehicle.

Anyone with information on Vance's whereabouts is asked to not approach him and should call 911.

Heavner had not been charged and it was unclear if he was still being held Monday evening.

UPDATE: Blue alert issued, hunt for man who killed two relatives, shot Wellston officers continues
FROM STAFF REPORTS Published: October 25, 2016 6:13 AM CDT

WELLSTON — A Blue Alert has been issued in a statewide search for a man who shot two Wellston police officers and then killed two of his relatives on Sunday.

Technically, the state's Blue Alert law does not take effect until Nov. 1, but an alert has been issued statewide a bit early, said Gene Thaxton, Department of Public Safety director of law enforcement telecommunications.

Michael Dale Vance Jr., 38, of Chandler, who was facing a child sexual abuse charge, was still at large Tuesday morning. He is wanted in the deaths of his aunt and uncle, Valerie Kay Wilkson, 54, and Ronald Everett Wilkson, 55, who were found dead Sunday night at 17100 NE 206 in Oklahoma County.

The killings happened about three hours after Wellston officers Jim Hampton and Shawn Stewart were wounded in a shootout in Lincoln County.

The Blue Alert, enacted this year, warns law enforcement and the public when someone is wanted in a case involving an assault on a law enforcement officer. Electronic signs along state roadways are alerting the public about the manhunt for Vance.

"We wanted to put something out on this guy," Thaxton said.

The alert for Vance on electronic billboards along roadways is needed, whether it is technically the state's first Blue Alert or not, Thaxton said.

"This is specifically what it (Blue Alert) is for, when we have a police officer shot or killed and we have not apprehended the suspect," Thaxton said.

Vance, who was wounded in the shootout, took an officer's pickup, carjacked a getaway vehicle at a Lincoln County trailer park and then drove to the home of his aunt and uncle near Luther, authorities said. He brutally killed them both, almost severing his uncle's head, then stole their car, authorities said.

F'kin judge let him loose and should be held responsible for all this; charges as an accomplice at least, if not put out front to go get him when he is cornered.

Oklahoma manhunt: Search for murder suspect Michael Dale Vance Jr. continues

Ronald Everett Wilkson, 55, and his wife, Valerie Kay Wilkson, 54, were identified as homicide victims in a crime
spree that began Sunday. Authorities have accused Michael Dale Vance Jr., 38, in the deaths. Vance is the son of
Kay Wilkson’s cousin, a family member said. Relatives described Ronnie and Kay

LUTHER — A funeral Friday for a slain couple will be unlike any this sleepy town northeast of Oklahoma City has ever seen.

Unless an ongoing manhunt yields the capture of Michael Dale Vance Jr., 38, the wounded man wanted for the couple's deaths, security at the funeral service is expected to include well-armed local, state and federal law enforcement officers.

A hit list hangs over relatives of the deceased, who have publicized the funeral in an obituary and are determined to afford proper burial rites to their loved ones.

"The manhunt that's hanging over us is not our fault, so why should we have to pay for that?" said a relative of the Wilksons, who asked not to be identified.

Valerie Kay Wilkson, 54, and her husband, Ronald Everett Wilkson, 55, were killed in a crime spree that began Sunday in rural Lincoln County and included the shooting of two Wellston police officers and the theft of multiple cars. The suspect is the son of Kay Wilkson's cousin.

Luther Public Schools canceled Friday classes for roughly 800 students to accommodate auditorium services for the Wilksons.

"This is necessitated to accommodate funeral services for the family of the community that suffered a tragic loss this past weekend," said Sheldon L. Buxton, Luther Public Schools superintendent. "The scheduled football game that evening with Meeker will be played here as scheduled."

The FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service joined the search and now jointly lead the manhunt, Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel said.

Vance's whereabouts is unknown.

Oklahoma manhunt: Hotline number could assist in search
"Well, he could be anywhere," Whetsel told The Oklahoman. "You kind of believe that he's smart enough to have stayed off the highways after the initial evening.

"He could be north, south, east or west from Sayre. I don't know if he's still in Oklahoma. He could well be in the Texas Panhandle. That's not that far from Sayre. So that's why it's hard for me to say where he's at."

Vance was last seen about 2:30 a.m. Monday heading east from an Interstate 40 truck stop near Sayre.

The two Wellston police officers injured in the shoot-out, Shawn Stewart and Jim Hampton, continue to recover from their injuries. Hampton fired at Vance, injuring him.

Whetsel says it's possible that Vance has died if he hasn't received medical treatment for his wounds.

The state Medical Examiner's Office released information Thursday about the Wilksons, who were found dead at their home in Luther Sunday night.

Homicide was listed as the manner of death for the couple. His cause of death was multiple trauma. Hers was multiple stab wounds.

An Oklahoma County sheriff's investigator reported earlier Ronald Wilkson had been shot, and cut so severely it appeared an attempt had been made to decapitate him.

Vance was last seen driving a stolen 2007 gray Mitsubishi Eclipse, with Oklahoma license plate 943LQQ. Authorities say he told his sister he has a list of people he wants to kill.

A special hotline, (405) 246-9205, has been set up for tips about Vance.

Oklahoma manhunt: Funeral held for slain couple as prosecutors file murder charge against suspect

October 29, 2016 12:00 AM CDT

who was injured in a shoot-out Sunday.

LUTHER — Law officers, in uniform and in plain clothes, stood watch Friday afternoon as members of the community streamed in to pay tribute to slain Luther couple Ronald and Valerie Kay Wilkson.

As the funeral was being held, Oklahoma County prosecutors filed a first-degree murder charge against a relative, Michael Dale Vance Jr., 38, in the deaths. Vance has a hit list that includes some of the Wilksons' family, Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel said, making the law enforcement presence necessary.

[Linked Image]
Photo - A mourner grieves Friday during the funeral of Ronald and Valerie Kay Wilkson in Luther.

The manhunt for Vance continued for a sixth day Friday as about 450 mourners gathered at the Luther Public Schools auditorium to say goodbye at a service steeped in faith and family, a reflection on how the couple chose to live.

"Law enforcement has been so good and so kind to this family and are doing their very best to locate this man and bring him to justice," said Lane Buckley, the longtime pastor for the Wilksons at Trinity Baptist Church in Wellston. "We ... are thankful to you ... Ron and Kay are no longer in a sin-scarred world. They're in heaven, where there is no more pain, no more suffering."

Vance is accused of shooting two Wellston police officers, Jim Hampton and Shawn Stewart, who had responded to a shots-fired disturbance call Sunday. He also is accused in the theft of a car and a shooting at a trailer home park and the killings of the Luther couple later Sunday.

He is accused of shooting a motor home driver at an Interstate 40 truck stop near Sayre early Monday during a thwarted attempt to steal the motor home.

Authorities believe Vance is targeting people linked to a pending sex crimes case against him as well as a former boss who fired him. He is accused in the sex crimes case of an offense against a 15-year old-girl in July. He lived in Chandler at the time

Prosecutors charged Vance with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle and one count of illegal possession of a firearm because of a 2002 felony conviction. The charge gives no insight into a possible motive.

Prosecutors say Ron Wilkson was shot and Kay Wilkson was stabbed with a knife. The unauthorized use of a vehicle count involves the theft of the couple's car.

Tears, hugs at service

The Wilksons are survived by four children and 23 grandchildren, the light of their lives, Buckley said.

"You were the twinkle in their eyes. You were the hop in their step. They loved you. You meant all the world to them," Buckley said.

Kay Wilkson never met a stranger; Ronald Wilkson was a prankster who watched over his lawn with jealous care and could fix just about everything with a little duct tape, said Buckley, to laughs.

Afterward, funeral-goers said they were proud to have known the couple, and they were happy to see the police presence outside the funeral.

"Kay was just an angel," said a longtime family friend, Lavonne Stokes. "She welcomed everybody. That's why somebody like what got to them, got to them. Because she welcomed everybody and so did, so did Ron."

The Wilksons were married 37 years, according to the funeral home.

Tips received, sought

A hotline set up by the U.S. Marshals Service could be the deciding factor in breaking the case, Oklahoma County sheriff's spokesman Mark Opgrande said Friday.

"It's very important we have the public's assistance," Opgrande said. "They are the eyes out in the community and any information they have may help immensely. We strongly encourage people to call the hotline with information or if they think they see Vance to call 911."

The hotline — 246-9205 — is being answered by deputy U.S. marshals around the clock.

"All sightings and relevant information should immediately be reported to law enforcement. Due to the nature of his alleged crimes, law enforcement considers him armed and dangerous," the U.S. Marshals Service wrote in a release.

Some tips have prompted lock downs at schools across the state, authorities said.

Possible sightings have been reported as far west as the Texas Panhandle and as far east as Little Rock, Ark., Whetsel said. None turned out to be Vance.

The last confirmed sighting of Vance was of him driving eastbound on I-40 from the truck stop near Sayre about 2:30 a.m. Monday. Authorities say he was still in the Wilksons' car, a gray or silver 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse with Oklahoma license plate 943LQQ.

Authorities say he told his sister he has a list of people he intends to kill. Vance has been described as the son of Kay Wilkson's cousin. Authorities believe he was wounded during the shoot-out Sunday.

Law enforcement officials as far away as New Mexico have prepared for a possible encounter with Vance.

“We were aware that he might possibly come through here since earlier this week,” said Deputy Chief Pete Rivera with the police department in Tucumcari, which is situated in New Mexico on I-40 about 40 miles west of the Texas border.

“We're just mostly telling the officers to keep their eyes open,” he said.

In between Tucumcari and Oklahoma, police departments along the interstate in the Texas Panhandle have either given their officers similar directives or conducted searches of their own.

“That first day whenever it was possible that he was going to be coming through, we had units up on the highway searching for a matching vehicle,” said officer Jeb Hilton with the Amarillo Police Department.

“There's always the possibility,” Hilton said, “but we have not had any tips.”

Closer to the Oklahoma border, the city of Shamrock, Texas, prepared early on in the search for Vance. Shamrock is the closest city to the border along I-40.

“Everybody is very aware of him,” said dispatcher Belinda Daniels. She said, while there was an extensive search in Shamrock, it turned up no signs Vance had been through the city.

She said searchers flocked the area for three or four days and looked "high and low and every nook and cranny, high roads and low roads.

“As soon as we got that information, everybody hit everywhere,” she said.

Oklahoma manhunt: Authorities searching in western Oklahoma after possible sighting of shooting suspect

Updated: October 30, 2016 9:31 PM CDT

HAMMON, OK — Authorities are searching for Michael Dale Vance Jr. in western Oklahoma after reported sightings Saturday evening of the car the shooting suspect was last seen driving.

Ellis County Sheriff Shane Booth said deputies have been assisting in Roger Mills County since Saturday afternoon.

“The suspect, Michael Vance, was most likely spotted and jumped from his hiding/camp site just north of Hammon. A perimeter was setup at all north entrances to Ellis County immediately and Dewey County also. The suspect fled in his car but is believed to have not got out of our perimeter at this time,” Booth wrote in a news release.

He said there had been no confirmed sightings in Ellis County and that it “appears he has been at this spot for several days.”

The Beckham County sheriff's office confirmed law enforcement are taking “precautionary measures” Saturday night.

“We ask that the public be diligent in the observations of the their surroundings. If you observe a small silver two door car please call 911,” the sheriff's office posted on its Facebook account.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has confirmed troopers are in the area and are assisting in the search.

Capt. Paul Timmons wrote on Twitter that there has been a possible sighting of Vance, who is wanted in connection with the wounding of two Wellston police officers and the deaths of two relatives one week ago.

“People in the area need to be alert and vigilant, report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.”

Vance was last seen fleeing from a truck stop in Sayre about 2:30 a.m. Monday in a stolen gray or silver 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

KWTV9 said he shot a Deputy in the process though, hope he makes it.

News said a hunter stumbled upon his hidden campsite today. Last day of muzzleloader deer season was today. Would have been a bad feeling walking up on that guy with nothing but a smokepole in hand.

Was starting to wonder if the guy might be dead. Heard he was hiding outside of Leedy. I hunted for a few years to the West of Leedy, across the River. A guy could stay hid in that area for a month and not see another person if they had a mind too.

Glad that guy is finally dead.
