I've read -more than once that the scout scopes don't work all that well in bright and dim conditions .

I used the same setup for years on whitetails , worked fine. When I started hunting on Eastern shore of MD. The low light conditions sika deer prefer, made the gun useless. I moved to a rifle with a conventionally mounted scope.

P.S. The scope I had was a 2.5x7 Intermediate eye relief Burris....

Yes, it's mounted on the Springfield Scout Rail. I use Leupold's QRW rings. I didn't try the Burris on this rifle. I should also point out that the Burris 2.7X Scout Scope was what was availiable back the mid 90's.
However, like I said, I was really surprised at how bright and sharp the VX2's 1.5-4X image is. E
