Stumbled across a 1915 Danzing Gew.98 with a FN blot shroud, Timney FW Deluxe trigger, Weaver K4 and a Bubba stock for $190...metal is perfectly spotless. Think it was a decent buy...

Excellent donor action. The bolt shroud alone is about $50, forge a Mauser bolt, $60, drill and tap, another $40. I would jumped on that in a heart beat.

I'd shoot the heck out of it as it sits. I imagine the deer will not like it one bit.

It should put meat in the freezer. I scored a nice mannlicher stocked Kar98 in early November and took a doe on the 17th.

Nice score. It's a rarity to find a bargain on used firearms at Cabela's IMHO.

Nice score. It's a rarity to find a bargain on used firearms at Cabela's IMHO. Best time is right around deer season, lots of shotguns and rifles that "just don't work any more" get traded in...most of them just suffer from a faulty nut behind the trigger. Snagged a real nice Savage 12 gauge pump(Store brand Model 30) cheap on the way back from that area for Thanksgiving a few years ago. The used racks floweth over in late November.

I saw an older Model 70 300 wby with Leupold Scope for $450. Stock looked like it has been dragged all over the hills but rifling looked good. One of two firearms I regret not buying. The other is a kimber pro carry for $500.

Good thing you got there before I did, cuz I definitely would have jumped on it. Would be a good soul mate to the post-WW1 Danzig Factory Sporter I have.
I agree that Cabela's prices can be nutz and they don't pay crap for used guns or trade-ins, but....I did score an early M700 ADL in .270 Win for $225. Only issue was a broken front sight blade and ugly would stock that refinished nicely. Also scored a Custom Sako L461 in 222mag there. They accepted $250 less than what they were asking cuz it had been there a while. Not always, but they will deal in the gun room and Bargain cave if the stock is getting old.

Great deal.
I'm with kaywoodie on shooting it as is. Messing with it will make it lose all its character.

I'm with kaywoodie on shooting it as is. Messing with it will make it lose all its character. I will probably do a little work to it, but nothing inappropriate for a build of that vintage. I don't really care for trigger safeties so that will probably go, in exchange for a 3 pos M70 style...I've wanted to do one of those for a while anyway. I'll post pics of what I do after it is finished...if it works out the way I see it in my head, it'll be nice.
