I stumbled across this today. Costco's Kirkland brand Merino socks selling on Amazon...for nearly twice the store price. I wear these socks all winter around home. They're great although a bit light for strenuous hiking. But, I buy them in the store for about $12/4 pairs.

If they were close to "members price" I could see a real problem for Costco, membership might suffer. It would be nice to avoid the Costco crowds.

Interesting find.

I have a big pile of those in the bottom of my closet. I buy about 16 pairs a year on my annual shopping trips.

I have several pairs I've been wearing regularly since about 2007. They just don't wear out unless you neglect to trim your toenails.

I got curious and searched for 'Kirkland' on Amazon. I got 16 pages of stuff, mostly health care items but some other stuff, too. From what I can see, the prices are jacked up to offset losing the membership fees and Amazon's commission.

Wyoming js getting ready to charge tax on all online purchases,to get more tax money. They claim it will help brick and mortar shops as well. I shop online as the shipping used to offset the sales tax.

I'm pretty new to Costco. I'm not seeing these on their website. Do they still sell them?

They sell them in their stores, at least in the northern stores. They sell a zillion of them. They have women's styles, too, and my wife wears them all the time.

Fabulous socks. Warm without being too bulky. I wear them from October through March, and they simply do not wear out.

Wool has always been one of the best fibers available. It's long lasting and versatile. Merino doesn't have as many microscopic barbs so it's softer than normal wool and doesn't itch as much.

The problem with merino wool production is that the lambs don't have the meat that other breeds have. They're bred strictly for wool at the cost of meat sales. That makes the wool cost more. Breeders have worked to get merino wool on meat quality sheep but so far it's hasn't worked well.

It's not Costco doing the selling. There's a whole industry popping up with people buying electronically from one site and selling on Amazon.

The middleman takes the order, electronically, and submits the order to the vendor electronically (in this case, Costco). Ships to third party directly from Costco.

Market arbitrage at it's finest.
