Saddest is that every one of the signers thought that Trump would lose, and that they would benefit themselves by working against the Repub candidate.
They not only shot themselves in the foot, they are literally on record as betraying the party for personal benefit.

Is there a benefit to getting the "base" to concentrate on attacking Republicans as opposed to coming together to undo Obama actions and consolidating power to move forward to make this 8 years rather than 4?

Yep my first thought was no one put their name on the enemies list but themselves. Why should Trump put any trust in advise from these types. “It’s hostile,” said this person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of further retribution. “It’s not just that we’re frozen out. . . . I was told they said there was an enemies list.” And they publicly put themselves on the list daily. 
There are no problems that cannot be resolved by the suitable application of high explosive.
