I have another coyote running around my house. So I loaded up some varmint cartridges. 257 Roberts Ackley Improved, 75 grain V-Max Hornady bullets.

That should do the trick with room to spare.

I've found they tend to die with any deer rifle round or correct placement with a 22 lr too.

Almost all I"ve ever shot have been 75bthp Hornady practice ammo in the 223 AR. The rest have been with 22lr 10-22 suppressed. They don't live long with a subsonic HP in the lungs.

I have been shooting them here in North Florida for years. Most died with a 45 grain .223 HP. Others have succumbed to a .30/30, shotgun, and .243 Winchester.

Did it have an exit hole or did it stay inside?

For killing coyotes when fur is not a consideration, any gun is fine.

I have killed coyotes with 22LR up to 50-140 Sharps and with pistols from 22 LR to 454 Casull. I also have killed a few with 40 and 50 cal flintlocks and one with an arrow.

When fur in prime and fur prices are up you want bullets that don't leave big holes in the hide.

The sound of the impact from that bullet on coyote hide is "almost" as impressive as the damage it causes.
