I am in search of a good hunting bullet for my 7.62x39 with .308 dia. bore. I came across the Hawk bullets and I could use some advise and opinions. I am looking at the 130 and 150gr X 25 RT. Anybody have any experience with the Hawk bullets in a situation like this?

I`m not quite sure what your asking? Are Hawks good bullets? Yes, we found them very accurate in the 8MM, and very devistating on game. Are they worth the money...your call, but I would think .30 cals of excellent quality would not be hard to find off the shelf, and less costly to boot.

Sorry, The 7.62x39 is pretty anemic when it come to velocity. A 150gr bullet will have a muzzle velocity of about 2150fps. When running at slow velocities such as this, bullet selection and terminal performance are key. There are very few bullets out there that will expand and penetrate at slower velocities.

Bullets like the Nosler Ballistic tip may work well, but they are very long and seating them deep enough to fit into the mag can be a problem. That puts my bullet choices in the 30-30 class. Nothing wrong with a 30-30 bullet like the 150gr Hornady RN, cept the low BC(.186) causes it to run out of steam and energy rather quickly. The 150 X .25RT Hawk bullet has a BC of .356.

I like their bullets.I use them in my 9.3,8mm and .404 and soon my .450/400...
What are you doing with the 7.62? I am working on sub-sonic loads right now for a pal with a suppresed CZ.Lots of fun...180 grain bullets at 900fps and quite without the can,no recoil!!

If the base of Hawk bullet is still open and not protected by a jacket then the core could blow out as one did before. When the core blew out the jacket stuck in the barrel.

that happened to me, destroyed the rifle and left me with a life long eye injury. Core squirted out of the jacket but the jacket remained in the barrel. I wouldnt suggest Hawk bullets

If you're searching for a deer bullet, just go with the 125 gr. BT if it isn't eating too much case capacity. It will work wonderfully at the velocities the 7.62x39 gets up to, just ask the handgunners!

Thanks Selmer, I am looking for a deer bullet. I've worked up a pretty accurate round with the 125 BT's in my 7.62x39. Haven't had a chance to try it on game yet. I would still like to find a bullet in 135-150gr that will work well at these slower velocities without sacrificing BC.

Never heard that happen to a Nosler Partition..... Did you load 10% below start and look for pressure signs?

Maybe try the Hornady 130 grain spire point? I shoot quite a few in reduced loads in ‘06 and is an accurate bullet. I would think at reasonable ranges it or the 125 Nosler should work well.
