There are several different mounting systems that incorporated the side screw holes that were original to the side of the action for putting on a rear peep sight. The mounts were made to utilize those holes and then the front could mount in the holes on the front of the action or the rear dovetail in the barrel. The top rifle is a 22 Hornet with a Lyman Alaskan 2 1/2 power with the front scope mounted in the rear dovetail. The bottom is a B&L Balvar scope with the scope mounts being mounted in the rear screw holes for the peep and the front holes in the action...
