Yep, my nephew got both Saturday morning.
He was watching a mid size doe about 150 yards out. She was facing him straight on, head moving up and down. He waited a bit and she turned a little and gave him a slight quartering on angle he was comfortable with. He cleanly broke the shot and the bullet hit the neck, penetrated along his imagined line through the vitals, and "exited" not far behind the opposite shoulder. She reared up and fell over backwards and to one side, dead right there.
Even with that nice bleeding hole on the far side of the deer, the hide managed to catch the bullet. It was a 95 grain Federal Fusion, 243 Winchester. The bullet looks ready for a photo advertisement.
I know hides will catch broadly mushroomed bullets, I've cut out a couple of those myself. But it was neat getting a bleeding exit wound (quite unnecessary in this case
) and the bullet.
