This book, pretty much centered on the legal system, is about a man who is convicted of murder when, at the time of the crime, he was a hundred miles away from the crime. How could that be? And, as written in the Author's Note at the end of the book, it is based on a true story from Texas where the man was two hours away from the crime and is still sitting in prison at age 79.
The innocent man happens to be a black man and the court was in the South. Crooked sheriff? Maybe. Crooked prosecutor? Or just foolish? Drugs? Is that part of the deal? A deputy murdered?
Good book and well worth reading.
It will probably make you seriously think about people sitting on death row or sentenced to life in prison who might be innocent.
