Boy this ought to be fun..... Fg, FFg, FFFg most definetly in cartridges and is most common around BPCR circles FFFFg - is ment for priming the frezen of a flint lock, and not ment for loading into a muzzleloader or cartridges.

The rushing wave of responses, has obviously answered your question. There don't appear to be any suicidal folks among this bunch. 1Minute

Fellers this was mostly posted in frustration of the tongue lashing I took from another forum for calling someone , who loaded 82 grs of the stuff into a 40-82 case, fired the damn thing, lost a primer and is now concerned about how much pressure bp generates, and is convinced that Lyman's data is "questionable", bullheaded.

Ranch 13
First of Ranch I want to say that you were right in what you said in your responses over at Goex. Me thinks Dick Gunn need his own Lab to conduct his own experiments away from the safe and sane world. What was his point about fine black powders the English used in the .303 Brit cartridge... ie apples to oranges.
I read the same postings over at Goex as well as other forum boards that Dick Gunn associates with, I do question his reasoning for it....
Many shooters today just are not happy unless they are making their bullets fly at a supercharge or spiking their feet per second rate for flatter trajectory, and that is what he appears to be trying to attain. My Opinion Expressed.
Now lets get back to talking about normal loadings of Fg, FFg and FFFg

Jb as you read the "home" pressure sytems are either to expensive or not reliable. I think that clown needs to be indentified immediately should he arrive at any shoot, it would not be a good thing to have some innocent bystander injured because his gun come apart at the seams on account of the possibility of the case being a little long.( Never friggin mind the over charge of powder )

Your exactly right, if he is identified should he attend the Quigley this next year, I want to know who he is because I sure don't want him shooting on the squad I'm shooting with.

I have a vague recollection of some very anal Schuetzen types loading .22RF cartridges with black powder. Maybe they used 4f. I also seem to recall that some folks have fooled with duplex loads of 4f under a main charge of coarser black powder. All this subject to a very dim memory, due in large part to a general lack of interest in such esoteria.

I think too many people got too much time available for trivial chitt. Anybody try tellin' this lad about how well ANFO works as an accelerator for FFFG? First ya put in a little FFFFG, then lotsa ANFO. Top it off with 32.1 grains of FFFG regardless of cartridge(that's the super secret secret).*
*Kids, don't try this without adult...er, nevermind...just don't do it....OK?

No ffffg in my locker! Although, I do use fffg for my 12ga shotgun. I have pretty much switched to 777 for my bpcr as I don't do long range stuff and it gives me great 150 yard performance. I'm going to try it in my G2 Contender soon...just for grins.

You might succeed. They are opening a 1000 yard range within 30 miles of me as we speak! It's not a private ranch, but it will allow me to see what the Sharps will do.

This document is safe, I used to post the one for ADOBE format but many don't have ADOBE reader. This will open up in Word Perfect and you can print this off if you want. I believe it is actually better than The SPG Primer. Introduction to Black Powder Cartridge LoadingAlso you can visit my web site Black Powder and BPCR Chronicles

I know of one person that used 4fg in a .45-90. No problems.
I used to use it in a .25-20.

Was Googlin' cyberspace a couple of days ago, subject being "Black Powder Pressure" and I'm sorry I could not re-locate the info....fella loaded a .40-82(IIRC) with....82 grains of ffffg and got a blown primer and enlarged primer pocket for his trouble. Dunno what that means necessarily, but there ya go....
