I was wondering what everyone's first choice was to spend their hard earned money. The day I turned 21 first thing I did was go to the gunstore (after sleeping off the hangover from being at the bar at midnight the night before HAHA). My first handgun I ever bought was a well used West German Sig 220. Also my first DA trigger. I HATED that trigger and quickly traded it off. Now after 14 years and probably 50-60 different pistols I really miss that Sig. Also putting 1000's of rounds down Glocks, M&P's and a variety of DA's I wish i had it back. I used to horse trade guns at a rate unheard of. Now w/ kids and pesky bills I'm down to my favorite S&W's and a Hi-Standard.

S&W 686, bought it from an E-6 I worked for. Sold it when I bought a 629.

Being an E-4 didnt allow for 2 pistols while saving for college. Wish I had that 686 back.

First was a Remington 1858 replica that I wore the notches off the cylinder, twice. First cartridge handgun was a Ruger Super Single Six purchased in '73 that I still have.

Colt Python, 6" blued. Original box, paperwork, Bianchi holster, speed loaders, brass, ammo, dies for $500!

I did some good gouging on that one.

H&R 999 22LR, 9 shot revolver with 6" barrel. Bought it from a guy I worked for. It was harsh introduction to handguns as it was incredibly inaccurate and incredibly loud.

I kept if for a year or 2, then sold it and bought a new Ruger MKII stainless steel with a 5 1/2" bull barrel. Mucho better pistol.

Well my very first was a Star 9mm that won't feed very well for $20 of my hard earned mowing money. I was 14 and bought it from an upper classman at school who was probably 16. Not sure what happened to it, but I suspect my mother found it. I couldn't afford to buy ammo for it anyway.
My first legitimate buy was a Ruger Super Single Six (that my mother signed for), bought at Walgreens Drug Store for $72.00 of my hard earned fence building money. And yes I still have it 43 years latter and is still one of my preferred 22 revolvers.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....

I turned 21 in 1980 and moved from a state in which you were at the mercy of a local judge to sign off on a pistol permit to a state that was wide open. Plunk your money down, fill out the paperwork and walk out with your handgun. Might have had to wait three days but I don't remember.

As soon as I got a job and the pay checks started to come in I bought a Ruger Single Six 22LR/22 Mag. Didn't know a thing about shooting a handgun but carried it everywhere. I eventually got to where I could actually hit the side of a barn. Sometimes I could even hit a jackrabbit or clip a grouse's head. Most of the time it just got used to dispatch trapped coyotes and the occasional hog or steer we butchered.

I don't have that Single Six anymore. It has been replaced by an old model three screw Single Six, 5.5 inch, but it started me in my affinity for single action Rugers.

k20350: The first handgun I purchased was for a gift to my older brother upon return from his second tour in Viet Nam.
It was a Ruger Blackhawk in 357 Magnum.
The year was 1968'ish.
We took that pistol out and promptly shot ourselves deaf with it after just 100 rounds plinked away.
I mean neither of us could hear for two days as we were not smart enough to have brought along ear protection (that was THE last time I ever let that happen!).
It was a cool gun for the times and I think he still has it.
It came in handy once when my brother and I were dropped off before sunrise one Mule Deer Hunting day up near Bonaparte Lake in the Okanogan country of eastern Washington.
The plan was for us to Hunt til 11:00 A.M. when we were supposed to be be picked up and returned to camp for lunch.
In other words we had no grub with us.
Well along about 5:00 P.M. we still had not been picked up and we were mighty hungry and cold.
My brother decided to shoot some Brook Trout in the creek we were waiting by.
Two shots and we had four Brook Trout and soon had them cleaned and over our small fire.
Apparently the shock wave from the 357 bullets caused a shock wave or "stunning" effect that rendered the Brookies unconscious.
They tasted pretty good though and tided us over til the broke down Hunting vehicle was repaired and got to us, well after dark.
IIRC I paid $95.00 for that newish Ruger pistol.
