I am shooting a 9.3x62 with a 250gr accubond with MV of 2530fps

My ballistic tests show this bullet to be very tough and slow expanding! I may get to shoot a critter(red stag) the size of an Bull Elk soon.

The shot should be just under 100yds, may question is: will the 250gr Accubond expand well in a Bull Elk or should I switch to something else. I also have 250gr BT loaded that shoot to the same poi.

Please answer if you have used a 9.3 with a accubond on elk(or similar African game) and tell me what the results were and please include shot placement and damage.(you may PM if you prefer)

Thank you
James

I've used the 250 AB on a bunch of African game and one grizzly, all about the general size of elk, and also a bunch of game down to under 100 pounds, and have yet to see one fail to expand at any range from up close to close to 400 yards.

I've been thinking about switching over to something more like an accubond in my 9.3. The 286 gr. partitions, I used on elk, kind of just zipped right through and kept on going. Not real spectacular kills, but put them on the ground nonetheless...

What velocity?

I have bad pretty good luck with quick kills using the 286 Partition out to 200-250 yards, as far as I've ever killed anything with it, but my handload gets around 2500 fps.

That's what I was really hoping to hear!

For a test I lined 5 milk jugs with 1in wet phone books between each jug. The 250Accubond @ estimated 2300fps impact went through first jug w/o expanding but after hitting 1st wet book opened in 2nd jug and stopped in last jug. Jugs 2,3&4 were destroyed with beautiful mushroom

I am very glad to hear you say you got expansion on smaller critters!

I have a CZ550 American and I believe it's a 24in barrel

I have had it a few years but never really got the opportunity to harvest anything with it yet. I am excited to find a worthy target!

Do you have a 9.3?

G'day James,

I have had excellent results on our Sambar Deer (almost elk sized) here in Oz.

I recently hit one with a 250gr BT out of my 9.3 at around 100 yards.

The bullet broke ribs on the way in and completely smashed the shoulder on the way out. The exit wound was very impressive. Some pics below.

In my opinion the BT is perfect for the 9.3 and I would recommend it on any game!

Come to think of it, that photo is definitely PG rated. sorry if there is any offence, but as you can see the results speak for themselves! This is actually the entry, cut away a bit to show the wound channel

Yes I do. It's a 98 Mauser with a 20"bbl. I use 270gr Speers at a bit over 2400fps.

I have only shot paper, using MuleDeer's RL-15 data I got 2650 fps and sub 1" groups out of a Ruger African.

Pack_Hunter,
Thank you very much for sharing the pics!

We have a few Sambur deer in an area around here and I loaded the 250BT for them. Guess great minds think alike, now I just need one in the cross hairs!

I like that I can shoot 250AB or 250BT and the hit exactly same poi.
Thanks again
James
