Ed, do you plan to chrony any of those loads?

I've got the same rifle from the same place. The only problem I'm having is that I don't have any dies or a trimmer for the cartridge yet. Gotta fix that because I'm anxious to see what it'll do.

I just fired my Ruger American Ranch over the weekend. I was hoping to do some handloading for it, but the large sporting goods store I went to was out of dies and other items I need to do the deed, so I bought a box of Fiocchi's 150 gr. FMJ ammo and a neighbor gave me a few of his handloads with H110 and a Hornady 125 SST.

The Fiocci stuff clocked only 1,840 fps,(I remember reading that it was a bit slow) and turned in 2" 3 shot groups at 100 yds. The neighbor's handloads, which he said were mid-range, clocked 2,060 fps, which is pretty close to upper end velocity. I was only able to fire one, 5 shot group that landed in a slightly smaller cluster than the 3 rounds of Fiocci.

I'm looking forward to reading experiences from people who are handloading for this cartridge.

I haven't used it on Big Game, but that will change this coming deer season.

I do plan to chrony a variety of loads, but did not today. Went out to the BBRC St. Louis range this morning and the 100 yd range was closed for maintenance. I went over to the pistol range as I had a 10-22 to fire also. I got the 300 BO on paper at 25 yds and went to the 50 yd side of the pistol rimfire range. All the groups I fired this morning were under 1" with the 19 gr of LiLGun load under 1/2" and being triangular as well. The 19.5 gr loads gave noticeably more recoil.

No problem with magazine and feeding as long as ejection and rechambering is done smartly.

I only have experience with subsonics in an Encore and Remington 700. My goal was a quiet rifle to dispatch predators around the farm. My max range with subs is about 125 yards before I care about calculating dope.

With a suppressor, the subs are hearing safe and quiet. Not 22 quiet, but nice enough. For deer, I have found exit wounds are either small or nonexistent with subsonics. However, they kill just fine with heart/lung shots.

If anyone knows of a reliable subsonic load that will expand, I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise the SMK or Gemtech polymer tips are the best factory rounds I've found. My buddy who reloads, likes 240 gr SMK which seem to tumble pretty well upon impact.

DF-
Loaded some of the barnes at 19,19.5 and 20 gr of h110 to the same oal as the factory loads. The 19.5 load did about an inch just under 2400 fps. The factory load is slightly better but under 2350 fps.

Those give about the best terminal performance you can get out of the Blackout, IMO. I haven't found accuracy to be as good as with other bullets, but good enough for the purpose. If I were hunting with it, that bullet would be my first choice.

Fired the RARR 300 BO this morning with the 110gr Barnes on top of 19.5 gr H110. Three and five shot groups were 1/2 to 3/4" at 100yds. Recoil very mild.

This little rifle is amazing and it's growing on me.

even in an AR, I have found that pointed bullets feed nicely if loaded to an OAL of 2.24, to just fit in the magazine. That seemed to give a bit better accuracy. Blunt tip bullets, though, you may have to load shorter.

The BO uses the same mag in the AR as 5.56 does, same OAL

I think factory spec for OAL is 2.08, and the AAC guys will argue that length is more reliable in most AR-15's, but I've never had a jam with a pointy bullet loaded to mag length.

I wonder how long you can load the OAL in the RAR?

Brass is available over at Sportsman's Whorehouse for those now...

I was thinking they would be a fun gun for general shooting with Hornady 110 grain RNs and SPs...

no one mentioned those...

that and a 1 to 4 Vortex on top....
