My father in law gave me his grandfather's old Stevens 425 lever action in .25 Remington. Externally the gun is in great shape the barrel, not so much. It's been under the bed for years. I'd really like to find some ammo (or make some ammo) for it and try to take a whitetail with it.

The barrel as I mentioned is in bad shape but even if it will shoot 3"+ at 50 yards I've got some places it would do just fine.

Anyone have any ammo they are willing to part with, a lead on where to get some ammo for it, or how to form cases for it? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can make some from either the .30 Rem or .32 Rem - same case, different neck diameter.

There's a gentleman on the Cast Boolits forum who makes 25 Remington brass for sale.

25 Rem

Hornady makes dies for it. I see them on eBay and GB fairly often and have a set of them.

The major factories stopped making 25 Rem back in the 1950's so it will be a bit difficult and expensive going that route. You will have to go to the custom ammunition makers to get any these days. And that can be expensive as the brass is of a different head size from the norm. That means only occasional runs of brass and it seems to run out quickly in normal times let alone these times.

Buffalo Arms, Bob Haley, and any other place you can find through the Internet, word of mouth, or Ouija board are where the non-reloader will have to go. the last I saw was at a gun show being sold by a place called "The Wolf's Den" in Hugo, MN. I don't know who makes it for them but it wasn't too badly priced.

For loading your own, you will have to size 30 Rem brass as that is all there is available- and that is only occasionally. I haven't seen 30 Rem brass in a few years which is a reason some are seeing 25, 30, 32 Rem dies fairly reasonable. Best of luck on finding any ammo and I wish you well on the barrel.

Resizing 30 Remington brass would certainly be fine if I can find that too. Let me see if I can get ahold of this fella on cast boolitts.
