I picked this old girl up today from a nice older fella in his 80s. It was his fathers and had killed 32 deer and 5 bear with it here in Northern Michigan. It has been gouged and has his initials in it but I think it's a keeper. The 26in bore is very nice and I have some 32 ws leverevelution to put through her. I'll display the Remington ammo he gave me with the gun. This is my first long barrel and I might give it a shot during rifle season.

Nice old Sporting Rifle, if only it could talk. I take one of the old Winchester levers for a walk every deer season....

Way cool! I'd take it over NIB. Be sure to write down the history and keep it with the gun, if possible from the original owners son.

The gentleman was a friend of the family and the history is well known. Some would say a $1000 rifle is now worthless. I totally disagree. Were there more Sporting rifles than carbines? And, can someone tell me when they stopped making the longer rifles?

Thanks, T4

Records only exist for the first 353,999 serial numbers (the rest were destroyed by burning them for fuel/heating at the Winchester factory in the 1950's). Of these guns 4:5 (276,780) were Sporting Rifles and 1:5 (75,075) were SRC's - 'Winchester M1894 facts, Bert Hartman'.

Winchester officially discontinued production of the M94 Sporting Rifle in Jan. 1938....

I have to say,,, the Ol girl is a shooter. 2 1/2 inch 5 shot group at 100yds with the Leverevelution. This was shot from the prone using a rest.

I will be taking this the 94 to deer camp. The two rifles to make the trip this year are the 1949 M70 in 30 Gov't and the 1923 M94 in 32WS. It's going to be a good year.

Great looking rifle and best wishes for success with that old rascal.

Out of curiosity, what sort of sights does it have?

My mid-1920s M94SRC (also 32 Spec.) has a Marbles rear sight (semi-buckhorn) and a Sheard front sight.

Nice rifle even with the "achievement marks". The 94 carbine is a joy to carry but for shooting nothing hangs as well offhand as the 1894 sporting rifle. They are an easy rifle to hit with offhand.

Oh boy! That is a neat old rifle, indeed! I use an ordinary old 1950's 32WS 94 for whitetail up here in Saskatchewan. I just like the way it carries. Cool old guns, for sure. cool

Beautiful old Winchester, an to think, todays hunters would say you need a $1000 10X scope on a 338 super X caliber to shoot deer and bear.
How sad we have come in our thinking that bigger is always better.
