I have a Uberti replica 1876 Winchester in 45-60. I have a 6 boxes of jacketed Hornady .458 300 gr. bullets and an 8lb can of IMR 3031 and would like to use these in my '76 replica.

As you know, reloading supplies have been somewhat scarce these days and I would prefer to use 3031 over my less than 1/2 can of 5744.

My dilemma is I have not found any Load's using 3031 with jacketed bullets. The ones I've seen use 5744, SR4759 or 4198. A friend suggested I use the reloading guide for the trapdoor Springfield 45-70 found in my Lyman 49th edition. His rationale being those loads were mild enough for the trapdoor and should suffice for the '76 replica.

I'm a bit leery of his suggestion and thought I'd ask if anyone on the board has used IMR 3031 and 300 gr jacketed bullets in a replica 1876. If so, were the results published anywhere?

Thanks for your thoughts.
