Did it hit any bones? And what was the launch speed?

WOW! Nine pages mostly in a urination competition. Thanks for the laughs.
The late Warren Page said it quite well:
"At what point during the animal's demise did the bullet fail?"
Pretty much says it all.

Coyote Hunter, What I consider to be long range varies with the weather conditions. I regularly practice to 550 yds and am practicing more frequently to 700 since I've joined a 1000 yd range. BUT, I love the stalk, and like to get as close as I can. My last several whitetail, killed during rifle or muzzleloader seasons, were shot at ranges of 80 yds or less. My last three pronghorn were taken at 40, 325 and 300 yds after stalks of half-a-mile to a mile.

This upcoming elk hunt is in the Gros Ventre area in WY. We're going to pack in. Guide friend of mine says to be prepared for shots to 500yds, but he's like me, he likes to get as close as possible and he says most of his clients take their elk inside 300yds, with inside 200 being average.

I'm going to take a .300 Win Ruger 77 stoked with either 200gr AB's or 180gr SC II's and a 7mm Roy Ultra Lightweight stoked with either 150gr SC II's, 160 AB's or 175 AF's. The Ruger is freakin' unbelievable accurate with those 200 AB's but it's heavy, at 9lbs 12oz, loaded, with sling, but it delivers over 2000fpe at 500yds. The Roy is just under 8lb loaded, with sling, so I'll probably hunt with it, and most likely will load it with the 175gr A-Frames, if it'll shoot 'em decently.

Bring enough gun and know how to use it.

Maybe using scenars would be a good way to go. Good bc good expansion great in the wind. I shot a big bull this fall but he was only at 200yds. Great performance through both lungs. He was dead in under 5 seconds. Went about 20yds. It was a 308 with 155grain scenars.
