A 28 gauge Model 94C followed me home from a gun show today; good+ condition and very tight. It has some stock finish wear/scratches on the buttstock but the metal is very good inside and out. It also has good case coloring on the receiver.
Can't find a lot of info about the 28 gauge other than they are scarce. The guy I bought it from stated he thought it was 1939-1940 vintage but while plausible do not know what that was based on. It certainly has the 'early 50's or before' look about it. There is no serial number so for sure it's a pre 1960's (1968?) gun.
Hope somebody with knowledge on this model can share with me.
I'm going to be shooting it tomorrow at some clay targets just to see how it runs.

Model 94's were in the catalogs before and after the war up into the 60's, maybe even later.

Yes, I have a 1969 catalog with them in it. But by then they were 'stained hardwood' stocked. This one has a walnut stock and no serial number. Not sure when they switched over to stained hardwood but I'm going to guess it was the early sixties. I think all long guns had to be serial numbered by 1968 (?).
Hope that somebody can give me some other clues to help date it; buttplate type, lettering, etc.

Shot some skeet targets with it today; singles obviously from various stations. Tight choke! Ejection certainly works as empties are thrown with gusto from the chamber.
Fun little gun from the past.
