Hi guys, I'm having some trouble finding a replacement stock for my 1956 Husqvarna 1640 (30-06) and could use some guidance.

What other model rifles stocks could I look for that would fit my rifle?

I think at this point I'd like to find a synthetic stock.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

Congrats on a sweet rifle. I had one that I had to sell a couple of years ago to help pay for a busted pipe at the house.

I'll dig up one of my old posts I think I asked this question once before.

If you look in this thread:

Forum member kutenay replies with a few options for the Husky 1640. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I was looking for cheap stock to use with a 1640(.30-06)as a beater(bbl had to be cut due to a bulge).
With a minimal amount of dremel work it fit fine. Blind mag box uses your follower and spring.
I later removed the recoil pad to reduce the LOP. Finished at 6lbs 2oz with 2 180gr rounds in it.

Got it ready just in time for season. I plan on shortening the forend and painting it.

I have a couple of McM Sako Hunters on HVA barreled actions.

You might try contacting Simpson, LTD., in Galesburg, IL, as they are probably the largest importers of Husqvarnas from Sweden. They import them by the shipping container.

This is nothing new but I am confused.. I thought the Husqvarna 1640 was a small ring Mauser action... I do know it's not a Mod 98 Large ring. Will they fit the same stock?

Thanks for the replies!

I bought my gun from Simpsons a year ago and I just love it. I took a sheep with it in March, one perfect shot!

A few months ago, using a bipod to sight in a new lead free round and the schnabel forend tip snapped off! So I cut and shaped the end and I actually like it better. So one crack delt with! This morning I was wiping it down with some oil and noticed a tiny crack near the front of the bottom metal. I took it apart to examine it and it looks OK but I want to find a synthetic stock to have just in case.

I really like this gun. I trimmed the barrel to 18", added a marbles bullseye rear sight, new banded from sight, sighted it in dead on at 100 yards. The gun weighs 6.25 lbs. and the length of pull is 14.25" and it fits me perfectly. I would feel very bummed if the stock failed but I'd be more bummed if I didn't have a replacement stock set aside for it and miss out using it for a hunt.

Thanks again for the replies and advice. I'll keep an eye out for a deal on a stock.

EZearl, what was the length of pull on that stock as it came form midwayusa?

Thanks,

13 1/2"

My bbl(17")is a fwt contour and fills the channel just fine. I figure a sporter one would be about perfect.

I've since replaced the scope and rings in the pic with a Vortex Viper 2-7x32 and Leupold Rifleman vertical split rings. Bumped the weight up to 6lb 6oz. ready to go with 2 180gr rounds.

They have large ring 98 Mauser screw spacing, small front ring diameter. The true small ring has closer screw spacing than the 98/HVA. A small ring stock won't work.

So, use a 98 stock, glass the front ring gap.

Yep, What DF said.

A really great option for that 1640 would be to call McMillan and get them to inlet one of the new SAKO COMPACT stocks for the 1640.

The short forearm and slim lines would work perfectly with that little action.

That would be sweet, for sure.

Many HVA fans are bargain hunters, may not want to drop $600 on a stock...

But, that would make a very nice rig.

I bet you've seen it before but here it is. It started out as a used up 1640 I bought here on the classifieds for $350 shipped. The seller let me know in advance the barrel toast and it was. I sent it off to Mike McCabe for a new barrel, sights and a M98 3-position safety. Then I took an old BRNO 21H stock and made a pattern for it, sent it off and had it duplicated. Mike did the metal and rust blue and I did the stock.

It's about half custom and half DIY grin

It's a departure from most 1640 builds I'm really happy with the results.

Yep, the McM Sako Compact would be the way to roll . Edge fill too!

OP - Do your rifle have steel or aluminum bottom metal?

Are you interested in a factory 1640 wood stock if one is available?

Terry - I always drool when you post your Mausers. Mike is backed up still. He has three of my actions, two 1640s and a commercial FN, currently in the queue....

Now that is the way a rifle should look. Very very nice. I have a Husqvarna 640 barreled action that I'm trying to find a stock for.

BTW the 1640 is not a bargain basement rifle. It's a helluva well designed and manufactured rifle. I picked up another one here on the 'fire last fall that was branded for JC Higgins. It's a bone stock 51L. Excellent rifle. Smooth, accurate, better handling than any pre-64 I've shot. A good Husqvarna is worth putting a good stock on.
