flat shooting and lethal...

I wouldn't call a 160 out of a Swede "flat shooting". Nor would I consider the 140 flat shooting for that matter.

As far as kick goes, how can anyone claim their swede kicks less than a 243? The swede has heavier bullets, and more powder capacity. It is a larger round. A better debate would be 260 vs 6.5x55.

Actually everything you questioned can be answered quite easily...

the OP was speaking of hunting in No Minnesota.. 100 yds is a long shot up in that area.. and despite a RN the old heavy 160 grainer will shoot a lot flatter than you'd think if you never shot one...

as far as recoil. if you notice my load of only 30 grains of RL 7... when most 243 loads are running 40 to 45 grains of powder...so the 30 grain load is going to kick less, even with a heavier bullet...

try them side by side and you'll see what I am talking about...

speaking from experience here, not what I have read or what I might gleen out of a reload manual or magazine...

I had a 260 and 243, identical Model Sevens.

The lower recoil of the 243 is very noticeable to all those who have shot them side-by-side.

I have a switchbarrel rifle with both those calibers and the recoil of the 243 is much less. So if you are looking for a lighter recoil gun the 243 is the choice

I have both in Tikka T3. Both are great rounds. I tended to use my 243 for yotes and cougar hunting.

My 6.5 Swede for anything large, but less than elk.

Both are great shooters. I just returned from the range with one of my Tikka 6.5 Swedes. Was shooting 130 gr Accubonds and was again very inpressed.

I've got both - load the .243 with a TTSX and it will kill any deer you want to pursue. Noticeably less recoil, WAY more ammo availability, and I'd always want one in the safe regardless of what I buy in the future.

The less recoil will make you more accurate as well.

Shoot the Swede.
There is not enough difference to notice, and the Swede is way cool.

The Swede kicks more in like rifles.

I'd take it over a 243 for deer anywhere.

The Swede is a puppy dog and I would easily take it over a .243.

130 gr accubond out of my Swede also. Just shot it yesterday seemed to recoil like a .22 but I was shooting my .444 Marlin right before wink

I will throwout there is a difference in my 243 with 95 gr bullets and my 6.5 Creedmoor. Creedmoor is similar to 6.5 Swede. I do not like recoil and find the Creedmoor with 120gr bullets more but very close to 243 recoil. 130 and 140 gr bullets recoil is more but not bad just more. Creedmoor recoil is less than my 7 08 with similar bullets. Probably more due to rifle weight than anything. As others have said can't go above 100/105 bullets with 6mm, but 6.5 can go 100 or lower.
