I'd carry a Swede with a charge of 30 grains of RL 7 and a 160 grain RN.. or if I couldn't get that, then a 140 grain SP Hornady...
kicks a lot less than any factory 243 load...
flat shooting and lethal...
I wouldn't call a 160 out of a Swede "flat shooting". Nor would I consider the 140 flat shooting for that matter.
As far as kick goes, how can anyone claim their swede kicks less than a 243? The swede has heavier bullets, and more powder capacity. It is a larger round. A better debate would be 260 vs 6.5x55.
Actually everything you questioned can be answered quite easily...
the OP was speaking of hunting in No Minnesota.. 100 yds is a long shot up in that area.. and despite a RN the old heavy 160 grainer will shoot a lot flatter than you'd think if you never shot one...
as far as recoil. if you notice my load of only 30 grains of RL 7... when most 243 loads are running 40 to 45 grains of powder...so the 30 grain load is going to kick less, even with a heavier bullet...
try them side by side and you'll see what I am talking about...
speaking from experience here, not what I have read or what I might gleen out of a reload manual or magazine...
