Just picked up a lb at the local gun shop ....no h4350 on hand ..I thought I'd give this a try.
I also latched onto some Hornady eld x 200 grainers.
Looks like the whole combo should work pretty good in the 30 odd 6.

There was an article in Rifle magazine which they were excited at the low extreme spread with good speed and accuracy 150's, 165, and 180's. I was thinking I need to try it in 300WSM and the 06 myself.
Good Shooting!

kraky,
So far, I've found 4451 to work very well in every cartridge/bullet combo where H4350 was my standard powder. In fact, I'm converting all those loads to 4451, just because of the continuing shortage of H4350. So far it's been only slightly faster than H4350 in most applications, but often so close the same amount of powder produces very similar results in both velocity and accuracy.

I just picked up a pound to try in my sons 7x57. Since he lives in North Dakota I thought the low temp sensitivity might be useful hehe, have not worked up any loads yet, thinking pairing it with 140 or 150 Partitions.

I think it's good stuff and like the kernel size. So far 54.5-55.5gr with 180 Partitions works well in two fairly different -06s. Also looks promising in a fickle 270 with 140s.

John, I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I stopped by the local Sportsmans and they had a surprisingly good selection of powder and primers. They had three pounds of H4350 which has been quite rare to see. So perhaps it is finally coming back in stock. They also had three bricks of Federal 210s which have been rarer than hens teeth! Unfortunately for me, the two pounds of Hodgdon Benchmark from two weeks ago were gone and still no Ramshot powders at all. The single pound of H4895 I have feeding my 223 isn't going to last very long...

That's interesting about the H4350, but I'm continuing to switch to 4451, simply because it's been very available during this so-called shortage.
Just checked the three websites I order from most frequently, and two had 8-pounders of 4451, 4416 and 7977 available, and the other had 4416 and 7977. Apparently it's a lot easier for powder to be shipped from Canada than Australia these days.
4166 and 7977 are good stuff too, and 4166 will do most of the stuff Benchmark and H4895 will.

That's good to know! Perhaps I will swing by and pick some up since that was one that was in stock.
What about 4955, have you had a chance to play with that one yet?

May have to try in my 338-06 as it likes H4350 with heavy (225gn) bullets. Might be a good fit with 210 Partitions.

Fwiw....in case some didn't know hornady has data out there for the eld x bullets. Just cruising some of the data it looks like they don't make an overly amount of pressure. Here's a link... http://m.hornady.com/support/downloads/load-data

Haven't even seen any 4955 yet. Usually Hodgdon sends a couple pounds of new powders a few months after they're announced, so am expecting to see some soon.

John - you haven't by chance tried it in a .375 yet have you? H4350 has been tough to get, and you know that Number One loves H4350 topped by a good 300 gr bullet... Guy

Guy, I haven't tried it in the .375, mostly because "my other .375" (a Mark X Mauser I'd owned for years before buying your No. 1) has always really liked IMR4350, and I haven't had any trouble finding IM4350.
But I'd bet 4451 would work in the No. 1, and IMR4350 might too.

I expect IMR 4350 will work just fine - and yes - it's been easy to get, while the H version is tougher.
Might have to try a pound of that new 4451 stuff too...
Thanks, Guy

MD, 4451 is a suitable replacement for H4350 in 257 Roberts? I'm down to my last pound of H4350. I've used 46grs with 100 gr bullets for years.
AND, 4166 also looks good!

Yes, I've switched over the 4451 in the .257. Works great with both 100 and 115-grain bullets.
In fact, Hodgdon's listed maximum 4451 load of 46 grains (actually 46.2) with a 100-grain bullet gets just over 3100 fps in my old Remington 722's 24-inch barrel, with accuracy as good as either of the 4350's, the powders I've used in that rifle for decades. And that data's at the antique SAAMI .257 Roberts level.
